    Default Hello From Bentonville AR

OK everyone. First off, want to say a big THANKS to the forum. Been lurking for nearly 2 years now and joined up last week. Been using pre-shave oil (my own creation), badger brush and many different creams and soaps over the past couple of years with MACH-3 blades. Had a family member give me a GEM Micromatic open comb about 3 months ago and just got the nerve up to give it a try. From what I have read this is one of the most aggressive SE out there, but I had it so figured why not! Been shaving with it for a week now and all seems to be going OK. Still some irritation on my neck (lots of changes in growth direction near the base of my neck) but getting better.

Doing 4 passes on face (WTG, XTG 2x's, ATG) , 3 on the neck (WTG 2x's, XTG). Finding that post shave is much more important now than it ever was! Using T&H badger brush and have used both CO Bigelow and KMF Bamboo & Green Tea, find that Bigelow is much slicker! Post shave is alum block followed by Witch Hazel and then Nivea balm. Question for everyone. Should I rinse prior to applying Nivea, or just put it on top of the other two? I have tried both approaches and seem to need more Nivea when I don't rinse, but not sure what is the "typical" process.

Ordered an EJ DE89 & a blade sampler from West Coast late last week and am looking forward to giving it a shot later this week! Should be interesting to see which I like/works best for me.

    Welcome!
You may not like you first DE shave but if you stick with it and perfect everything and find the right combination of creams/soaps and blades that work for you skin type and whiskers you will grow to LOVE it and it will be come a obsession and a passion. Its like being able to pamper your self a little everyday. The only bad thing about this pastime or whatever you shall call it for our manly ritual is it can only be done once maybe twice a day.
Hope everything goes well for you and if you have any questions there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this forum who are more then willing to go out of there way to help you with anything you need. This is really a wonderful place to hang out and learn, cause even if you think you have everything down pat you can always pick up a little something more.
So Duffy, have any theories to go with that tie?

Isn't that the home of Walmart? Welcome aboard. I would say no rinsing, per your question.

Correct, the home of Walmart. Wish I had some influence on the wet shave category there!

Remember with the Micromatic SE, you want to keep the head of the razor as flat on your face as possible. That will help with the irritation you are experiencing.

    Update.

First off, West Coast ships unbelievably fast. Ordered on Friday 7/13 and it was on my doorstep yesterday 7/16. Highly recommend using these guys!

This is great news because my new EJ DE89, blades and Proraso Sandalwood cream were delivered in time for today's shave. Whipped up a batch of cream (turned out really nice & loved the smell BTW), put in a red Personna blade and lathered up my mug.

So here's the play by play:
    Pre-Shave:
Shower and wash with Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Cleanser
    Pre-Shave oil (my concoction)

    First Pass:
Face WTG (N-S) Neck WTG (S-N lower neck, E-W upper neck)
    Warm Water Rinse

    Second Pass:
    Face XTG (E-W)
Neck WTG (S-N lower neck, E-W upper neck)
    Warm Water Rinse

    Third Pass:

    Face XTG (W-E)
    Neck XTG (N-N)

    Post Shave:
    Warm Water Rinse
    Cold Water Rinse (Ice added)
    Alum Block
    Witch Hazel
Clinique Post Shave Healer (Not my favorite, but it's what I used today)

Shave went great, not a single drop of red made an appearance. WOW what a nice irritation free shave that was! Definitely a lot less burn than the Micromatic! This DE thing might just work out after all!

    Welcome to B&B.

You must have enormous restraint to lurk for 2 years before joining. I don't think I lasted 2 minutes before joining
