Thread: Which Open Comb

R41. Master it and you'll love it! Fatip or joris would be my next choice.

+1 The Mekur open-combs will be a tad mild for you compared to the Old Types which are fantastic, underappreciated little gems. Slants are fine also, but i would leave the R41 for the last OC that you want to try. Good luck.

I'll not agree about Old Types, my Old is as mild as the Merkur 985CL, but yes, they are small gems :-)

The Fatip has been a great shaver for me.

Both of these are great razors, I think I prefer my Long Comb but I hate the small ball end handle.

Thanks for all your help! I think I will try the 1904 (just because I want to try open comb), and after that, the slant. Maybe r41 some day. But I'll wait for that one.

I just got the Merkur 15C last week and it performs well. Like others have said, it's a bit of a learning curve but with the OC you can definitely see when your angle is off!

As far as performance, I think it's a pretty mild razor which I'm fine with I don't have anything to prove. It leaves me with a DFS with 2 passes and a touch up, could probably get to BBS with 3 and a little buffing.

Good call on the 1904. It's a good mild OC to sharpen up your skills on. The handle's a bit slippery....

Just ordered an Old Type, a Gillette Debutante, from a vendor. Pretty stoked!

Second shave today with my new R101 with a 2010 head. I'm absolutely loving this razor! Close and smooth and comfortable. What more could I ask for?

So I have a few spare moments at work and i'm researching the Gillette Debutante. Appears to be a woman's razor... Old Type head, with a longer handle. Anyone used one?
