Big daddy wool component

I just received my Big Daddy strop from Ron this week.
I used the wool component of the strop on a freshly honed razor off a coticule and then onto leather.
I felt like I shoulda used sandpaper on my face as it would've been smoother.
I've used my Wife's Grandfathers vintage Linen before and had a great shave.
Do these need a breaking in period or should I just paste it?
The leather side of the strop I found to be delightful.

No, no breaking in required. The wool just sucks, that's all.

I used mine for some diamond pastes, it worked well for that.

Cheers for that guys.
I've just upgraded from my poor man strop that I got last year.
Never had the wool/linen before and didn't really want to use swmbo's grandpas strop in case I kill it.

i put diamond spray on my big daddy wool component... it works good for that...... but honestly i get better results from canvas or cotton...

The wool felt also has a grain, so if you have an abrasive sprayed onto it, you'll notice under the microscope a very slight rounding on one side of the edge (unless the felt is cut differently than the ones most use, i.e. perpendicularly).

I really hardly ever use felt, linen, canvas, whatever. I have two Big Daddys and I mostly only use the Leather side, to be honest. I didn't know that the felt side sucked. But you don't need it anyway. For a "pre-strop", try balsa loaded with diamond paste. It's killer.
