I agree with the OP in the sense that I have perceived a distinct infusion of "attitude" in just the last year or so. I don't spend time with other boards so I cannot comment on the behavior of people on other boards. It seems more of a cockiness or sarcasm as opposed to real malevolence. But, as our obsession/hobby grows in favor with the public at large, this is only likely to increase, just as the price of vintage razors on Ebay seems to increase. Youngin's with money, God bless'em!

Ok, that made me laugh out loud. While I was drinking a soda. In front of my computer monitor. If this is an example of B&B "snarkiness", keep it coming!

Generally this is the most pleasant and friendly board I frequent, so I am not aware of any specific incidents Paul may have encountered and it would disappoint me if this turned into a biker bar.
Well said. Again, there was nothing specific just a general feeling I have been getting. Maybe Im just being hyper-sensitive.

It's far easier to be a RC hiding behind a computer. Our mods do a great job on this site. Best of all the sites I'm on. It's all good.

If you think this place is snarky, I would love to see the B&B of old. This is pretty much the nicest and most helpful board I have ever been on. I have been on ones much much worse.

I thank all of gents for making this board... gentlemanly.

Okay, I’ll ask for what everyone else also wishes to see. Paul, can you please quote and example or direct us to an example of the type of snarkiness that spurred the OP. In quotes, you can easily erase the member’s name, so it won’t be obvious who you are quoting (odds are they won’t read this thread anyway). It is not that I disagree with the OP, just more wanting to make sure we are all on the same page.

    Errr, ideally don’t quote me.

+1. This comes up from time to time and really attests to how great the B&B community is.
Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

I certainly have not noticed an increased level of snarkiness recently. Actually, I find it to be much calmer than it's been at other times since I joined. It would not surprise me if there were some spectacular outbursts of snark recently that I happened to miss (darn!), but on the whole it seems fine.

I really think this place is mostly a very nice place to be. The only real bad treads I have read were in the time when the barbershop became too much of a political arena. That just made me stay away from those threads, but it seems that problem more or less have gone away.

I really don't have any good specific examples it is just the general feeling that a few in this thread have also noticed. I guess it's just more jabs at folks that I am noticing more now. I think in the past it seems like people were just more inclined to leave the dumb remarks and off the wall threads to fade away. It is probably just all the members that keep them around now.

There was no one event that made me start this weak rant. I don't play video games or surf other sites like this so I have no frame of reference I guess.

I probably should have kept this thread in my head. This is a great place and I am sorry for my blasphemy.

Most of you gents were not here in 2008-2010. The mods dealt with this type of behavior from rogue members. They were banned and they would re-register under other names to wreak havoc, post porn and upset the group. At one point we enlisted other forums to get rid of these yoyos.

This forum is relatively calm and genteel. I would not go anywhere else.

I see your point with keeping the bad treads alive. That's absolutly something to think about. I also must say I think treads like yours are good to keep in mind what kind of forum most of us wants this to be, and you have nothing to apologise for in my book :)

Maybe you're more sensitive to it than others? It is difficult to comprehend tone, sarcasm, and attitude over typed words so every one of us could read the same post and see the poster in a different light.

This reminds me of something that happened when I went out west from Virginia to go bird hunting in North Dakota. We got a rental truck in Minnesota and after our second day in N.Dakota, a local farmer advised me to make sure that folks knew my brother and I were from Virginia and not Minnesota. "Why", I asked. "Because them Minnesotans are A**holes" he replied. Now, I'd just spent a day in Minnesota flying in, staying overnight and getting the rental vehicles and everyone we met was as kind and polite as could be imagined. I looked at him and said "You've never been to NJ, have you?"

For all our NJ board members, please take this in the spirit in which it was intended. My point is that perspective is nearly everything. This is a very polite environment and when one of the few incidences of rudeness occur, and I have seen them...almost always on the BST by the way, they never approach the level of meanness, vulgarity and stupidity one sees on other forums.

Could be. I work in a prison and have fairly thick skin so I guess when I get home I try not to read to deep into things. Like the quote below.
