Alex:

What can you tell me about this razor? It's without question one of the best looking razors out there. Is that a blade or a shim? How does it shave?

Those are beautiful! Thanks for sharing pics. I agree with your choice on the plating materials - looks perfect for those Barbasols.

Ahh, very nice work. One that I'd eventually like to try one day and hope to find! Congrats on a obtaining a handsome looking razor.

I scored my Barbasol by keeping my eyes peeled in this very forum

A good story if you didn't catch it before LOL LOVE this razor!

Some BARBASOL Razor Porn! And a LESSON in razor hunting PICS

Very nice. There have to be more out there. Maybe not in this condition but Dave does great re-plating work. I have tried a lot of razors to this point and the Barbasol is definitely one of the very best if not the best for my face. From cutting to weight balance it is almost perfect for me. The head in stainless steel with a UFO type handle (3 piece instead of 2) would be a very interesting razor. As up to date as anything else. Many times the earlier manufacturers got it right. Gillette, Barbasol, Rotbart to name a few. Always looking for another Barbasol.

Thanks for the close up picture. One very good looking razor.

I may have a line on one of these, which looks like it might be in good shape. Any idea what year these were made? No info in the Wiki on Barbasols. I'm surprised at that.

Not many were made, thats why some are rare and cost alot.

So, what is a Barbasol with a bakelite handle like? Is it the same head as either of the other two? Can I put a different handle on it? How much should I pay?

Nah the Barbasol's with the plastic handles are non removable. Bit of a bummer actually. I would pay no more than $20 to $30 for a good condition plastic handle Barbasol on ebay. The head looks similar to the metal handled Barbasol, but there are some differences. Personally, if you are going to chase one I would hold out for the metal handle version. This is a SERIOUSLY solid and hefty razor. A good add to any collection.

I like my Baklite Barbasol. It shaves really well and looks cool. Keep in mind, a Tech can run $15-$20 on Ebay, the Baklite Barbis are a lot harder to come by. I don't see them ever becoming as valuable as the Floating Head models, but I think they are currently undervalued.
