Might be a hassle to get hold of over there but anything by R.M Williams would be a good fit. They are super comfy and very smart and last forever. I've got a pair of craftsman boots I've had for 15 years and still going strong.

    Cheers

I walked by a Rockport store after work after deciding that my feet couldn't take the pain much longer and bought these:

These were on sale, and I bought half a size up. They're a little (only a little) big, and I put in some foot inserts...no need to walk like I have a needle in my small toe any longer. The shoe has a rubber sole and a soft leather upper along with soft inserts, it feels good. They're not as comfortable as wearing my running shoes to work, but it sure looks a lot smarter. The only thing I'll miss about my old shoes is the near-indestructible leather and the noise the hard sole makes when I walk on hard floors, but I look forward to wearing these in the morning.

I tried out Ecco and Clarks as well. Both had some great looking shoes too.

    Indeed...the rubber is comfortable.

    Thanks for all your ideas.

My Clarks are comfy for dress shoes, but they look like garbage next to my Allen Edmonds.

+1 on Clarks. I have several pair in brown or black. Very comfortable and they look great with casual slacks and could even work with a suit if you had to.

my most comfy pair of shoes EVER - Mephisto!!! I've got a pair of Match and a pair of Hikes. a bit pricier than I normally spend on shoes, but worth every penny.

also got a pair of Ugg slip ons that are nearly as comfortable that were a gift.

when I'm just lounging around, or doing yardwork or what have you I wear the slip on, lace-less Converse chucks (think I oown 5-6 pair by now)

I need to get a comy pair of dress shoes/loafers eventually - any recommendations?

Allen Edmunds. No reason why you should compromise style for comfort, plus they will last years. My oldest pair is pushing 7 years...they have a cult following for a darn good reason.

As a teacher for the pas 33 years who also loves to walk, I have always gone for rubber-soled shoes. Rockports are good, but recently, I have preferred shoes from Ecco (the Track II) and Clarks (the Unstructured). Wonderfully comfortable!

If you've never worn a pair of Doc Martens, you should consider it. Worn by everyone from postman to doctors to military to housewives.

I'm a school teacher and am on my feet all day, but still want to wear shoes that match my shirt/tie look. I did some research and bought the Doc Martens For Life boots in "smooth black." They're guaranteed to last until I die. If they don't, DM will either repair them or replace them for the cost of shipping (around $20.)

I'm two years into them and they're perfect. Plus when I play my rock shows I still have street cred. heh.

They also come in brown, tan and oxblood (reddish color - my next pair!)

Boots are $150, shoes are $130.

Last pair of boots/shoes you'll need to buy!

Doc Martens. I know, I know, but they're not just for rockers and 90s grunge wannabees. Check out their refined line: http://www.dmusastore.com/c-111-refined-mens.aspx I have two pairs of Geoffs, and they have a lot of options for nice dress shoes. I've worn them exclusively for 2 years ad they still look great, and take a shine well.

    I've worn docs for years.
They are comfortable and fairly durable.
In recent years though they moved most of their gear to China and I felt the quality took a hit.
The built for life still come from Britain however.
Keep in mind they are pretty heavy, but you can't beat the style :)

Russell Moccasin ( they make boots and shoes). Not cheap but they make them to fit YOUR feet vis a template form that you send to them. If you are a 9 1/2 D on one side and a 10 C on the other, no problem, same price. And they will last you a lifetime. I have two pair. A set of boots for outdoor activities and a set of dress shoes for daily office wear. Perfect fit from day one on both. They are my go to shoes.

    And American made!!!!!!!

Another vote for Mephisto. I have two pair of the Storm, which is much like the Match but a bit wider. Sadly, they are now discontinued (probably because they were so close to the Match), so I'm glad I got a pair of brown and a pair of white ones while they were still being made. I've had probably 6 pair of Mephisto in my life and each one was extremely comfortable. Pricey, yes. But, I hate shoes that hurt.

I have a pair of Dr. Scholls I got from Shoe Carnival. They have the Dr. Scholls pads built in. These are the most comfortable work/casual shoes I have ever owned.

But, if you're looking for boots: http://www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing...ker-boot-black once you break them in, they are more comfortable than tennis shoes. They are pretty much all I wear on the weekends. I'd wear them everyday, if I could.

Rockports are really comfortable, as well. They use adidas insoles, so they provide reasonably good support and comfort for walking and being on your feet, in general.
