Planning to get a Digital Photo Frame during the holiday sale but don't know what to get. I would like to get one that has a very good display quality and prefer a 8 in. size frames.

I bought a Phillips after doing the research. Here are the negatives on digital picture frames:
You have to choose how the frame will sit (portrait or landscape). The pictures you load onto the frame are likely a mix of portrait and landscape shots. When they match, it looks great, when they don't (landscape pic on portrait frame or vice versa) there are huge black bars and the picture is quite tiny. The other thing is that the frame has a fixed resolution so you need to trim all the pictures down to roughly that size so you are not wasting memory (if that is important to you). Loading a full size pic off your digital camera will chew up excess memory (leaving less room for total photos) and greatly slow the transition between photos. So if you have the time to do that you will be pretty happy with a digital frame. If it is not a big deal to you, then you will be really happy regardless. The Phillips has a decent interface and computer program, the resolution and picture are excellent, and it takes compact flash (and others I think as well) so memory is totally expandable. All opinions are in my humble experience, of course.

I bought mine about a year ago and I believe it is the 6.5 inch Phillips with the interchangeable frames. I did not buy the 8 inch because there was an issue with the resolution being worse than in the 6.5 inch frame if I recall.

Thanks for the input Dennis. Do you know if the issue with resolution on the 8 inch was fixed or is it still a better bet ot go with the 6.5 inch?

The resolution is fixed on both. You were paying for a larger screen but a lesser resolution. The resolution is actually greater on the 6.5 inch. Remember though, this was about a year ago and things may be a bit different now as the sizes are getting bigger and bigger.
Dennis, i just came across this review on amazon. Have you tried this on your frame?

I have not had any problems like he is describing. my frame seems to work fine.
I just bought one today at COSTCO. Its a brand called SmartParts seemed to have good reviews online and its a 8inch display with 800x600 resolution for $99 with a $20 0ff from $119. No mail-in-rebate gimmicks. So went ahead and bought it. If it acts funny i could always walk into Costco and return the unit. Let see how it goes. I did load a few pictures and does seem like decent quality display. Not bad. Will try and post a few pictuers if possible. BTW The "frame" is made of wood and not a cheap plastic. Thanks for all the help guys esp. you Dennis. I really appreciate it.
