Okay Guys and Gals, I am thinking about doing a Joris PIF to the Joris/Fatip lovers gang . There will be some conditions though, insured shipping...Who is interested?
Joris-FaTip Lovers+ BOTOC+ LOSER+ I Can't hardly wait for tomorrow to come so I can shave!
Triad: Anxious to hear your thoughts on the new Joris after you're a shave or two into it. Sounds like you're confirming what Alex has been saying, handle weight makes a difference. Sounds like Alex was spot on. Good shaving to you.
Ignorance prevails, here. I'm not sure what PIF means; Paid In Full? I really don't know. Nonetheless, I'd say that I'm interested.
Traid: Thanks for the heads-up. You've been very helpful, I appreciate the assists.
I will need to make choice of B&B members that are regulars on the BOTOC thread and really want to try out the Joris. They can keep it for 2 weeks or less. They should also post something about the shave experience, it dont have to be daily. Then they must insure ship to the next member.

Any word on if the UFO handles fit the Grande FaTip (Nickle)??

Yes, this so far from the Fatip and handles fitting thread
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...-post-all-here!!
From B&B's SAMJAX:
I matched my Fatip up with a UFO Kaiser for now.
The Kaiser is polished stainless, 100mm long, 13mm in diameter and weighs in at 91 grams.
It's a great combination - although in regards to balance - the Kaiser might be just a tad heavy for the Fatip head.
Attaching the handle is straightforward.
I will say that I think the iKon OSS handle is probably a better match for the Fatip head - at least in regards to balance. The OSS handle has good length and reasonable diameter and has quite a bit more "bite" than my Kaiser.

That's a great idea Alex! We need to recruit more Joris lovers! I will support in any way I can short of offering up my one and only joris.

Hi Guys,
alex2363 invited me over after finding my thread on my new Fatip that I was having problems with. Basically I found some defects to the razor and I was asking other Fatip owners what their experience with the razor was like. After getting a reply from Phil on a replacement I reexamined the razor again with blade in it to see if I could shave with it.
Let me re-quote myself:
"In Short, No I can't shave with it.
One side of the top plate (the part that holds the blade over the Comb) was trimmed too much and bends the cutting edge in a slight 'U' shape. The blade is smiling at me, and I can hear the words; "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!" going through my mind when I look at it."
End re-quote.
I had the same problem with a Merkur 38C Long Handle. I fixed it by taking the top plate from my Merkur 34C and using it with the 38C base/handle.
And that gave me a odd idea, try the 34c top plate with my fatip. It didn't work because the threaded post was too long for a 3 piece setup. But the rest of the top plate DID fit. Then I remembered my Muhle R89. It has the same basic shape as the 34c top plate, and it seemed to fit with the OC of the fatip. But the fatip handle would not fit. No problem, I used my iKon Bamboo handle. With a blade everything seemed to fit together so I gave it a 3 passes shave. Overall not bad. Give me a few weeks before I can say anything solid about it.
In my quest for a good shave I have just created something I might have no control over. This Fankenrazor, is it a man or a beast? Ether way I will call it; The Fatmuhlkon! 'Insert Thunder and lightning with evil laughter'
I am not wise. If I thought I was, I wouldn't learn anything.
If you wanna do a goodie box like poonjaji did with the cobra tour Ill donate some blades and soap.

First Shave with Gillette Old Open Comb with Persona Med Prep Blade: Now I can understand the benefit of shaving with an open-comb razor. This Gillette has the short combs on the head. The shave was very smooth and close. I made my traditional two passes (WTG/ATG) with pickups. The entire shave was very smooth and it took less time and fewer pickup passes to get the errant stubble (I shave every day). This is the first true open comb (I had tried Merkur's 1904 Classic OC, which feels like a toy compared to this Gillette--the 1904 didn't deliver like this razor) with which I've shaved--and it was an absolute delight to use. I took off the original ball-end handle and used one of my EJDE89 handles--the pairing felt really good. The question I have for myself is, did it do a better job than my closed-comb Techs? I am going to have to shave with a Tech tomorrow to see if I can feel a difference.
Gillette Old Open Comb with EJDE89 Handle
Now I better understand the possible benefit in using an open comb. It does cut more efficiently than a closed comb, at least this is my take from this initial shave. I did find that I had to carefully lock the razor's head to ensure the blade was properly centered. If done with paying attention to blade alignment, the blade edges are not equidistant from the combs' edges--not a problem, I was mindful about this after realizing the blade would not center without guiding it into position. I just felt a few areas, pickups, I missed; and I think it was a matter of getting used to the angle at which I hold the razor when getting in those areas where my I have multidirectional growth. I'll head back and shave those less-than-acceptable pickups now. I just thought I'd pass this OC-neophyte's experience to you long-time OC guys.

^wrong thread maybe?
The Jagger handle threads matched up and threaded smoothly, as it does with my Techs. I did some further inspection and found that before locking down the head, there is a bit of play in the blade as it sits in the head, unlike, e.g., my three Techs. I did see the same issue with the ball-end handle. I changed it because I prefer a heavier handle.
The razor did a good job, but I'm not satisfied with this blade positioning issue. I may suspend working more with it and wait for my Fatip to come in before pursuing another open-comb shave. A few more days and the Fatip will be knocking on my front door.
