I've owned three Joris/Plissons and they all had alignment issues, but nowhere near as bad as I have seen in other razors. Generally it takes about 5 seconds to loosen the head, realign the blade with my thumb & forefinger and screw it back up. It's a minor annoyance in my mind; not a problem.

There is inherently a bit of play in the blade with the three-prong design.

That's one of the reasons Gillette went on to design the NEW; they put a ridge on the baseplate so the blade would be held all along its length rather than just on those three posts.

People using the FaTip, the Joris, or the Old Type (or any razor that has a three-prong design) have to be careful that the blade lines up properly. You have to line it up every time you load a new blade.

If you send it back to Phil, he'll probably send you another one, but it will still be prone to the same thing.
Randall, I had that problem with the FATIP not the Joris, thats why I recommend to send it back before its too late so he can have another razor to see if its a alignment issue. I think that it was just a bad apple. My Joris has perfect alignment all time with out no effort .

Triad, are you saying that the blade is always perfectly aligned and with even exposure on both sides? Everytime? With no effort? That's certainly not been my experience with any razor that holds the blade by three prongs.

I,ve had no problems with either Joris. I do hold the top piece upside down drop the blade on post put base plate on and screw handle on all upside down and i hold the tabs while screwing handle on. Is this how yall are doing it also?

I find that just as with my slants I have to pull the blade tabs up into the cap to get the blade to align. I will try doing it this way. Either way if the exposure is different from one side to the other I think theres a problem.

I hear you and Triad. I'll discuss it with Phil tomorrow. Randle is probably right about Bullgoose replacing it. Obviously you and most think highly of the Joris and I may love it but there is one other personal taste issue with the handle. I really am not fired up with the serpentine taper. Really like the slim feel and fluted end of the Tradere. But, HMMV. You guys really are, most helpful. Appreciate it.

The comb appears to be longer than the comb length on the 'Old' oc, but shorter than the length on the 'New' oc--if I've got my models squared away. The 'Old' open combs I've seen have shorter comb teeth than this one. But you guys have the expertise, I'm still new to open combs.

As do I. We are having a good alignment discussion, at least. Again, I have no problem with my Fatip gold with the Grande or Tradere handles. We all realize the problem is not the handle.

    Joris: Handle Profile

I'm kind of drawn to this lined Palladium handle/barrel.

I was skeptical of the oblong handle on the majority, save the Major, of Joris razors. But after scouring researching online feedback, many say the handle shape delivers exceptional feel. Do you guys who own/use Joris razors agree with this? I went to many other websites and look at comments on the Joris and found the handle was commented on favorably. It looks so odd to those of us who have used traditional cylindrical profiles. I know that I'm new to open combs and if I like the Fatip, which I hope I will, I'll likely get a second one--RAD has had me buying razors in pairs for years; if one is good, it follows that two... and it means I can compare blades using two of the same razor. Okay Joris guys, if you will, tell me how you feel about the handle shape on your Joris razors. Does the Joris' handle profile/length, forgot to mention length earlier, enhance the razors feel and feedback? This is one of those things in life a guy has to know; and may well have to experience for himself. I'll have to follow the Rolling Stones advice and think, "Time, time, time, is on my side..."

I love that handle profile. As a matter of fact, I also have a Jagger lined Bulbous which is almost its twin. In my big hand, it feels very natural and comfortable and, I believe, it also gives me a bit more control over the razor.

I wasn't in love with the handle profile till I held one in my hand. These babies are are pure function! With great looks to boot!

Interesting, guys. I have smaller hands but I like thicker razor handles. I can't take the feel of those thin handles--they allow for no control or feel, at least for me. I have the standard EJ lined handle, which I like. I forgot about their lined Bulbous handle--it had never appealed to me, not until you guys got me interested in Joris razors. I appreciate your sharing your experiences. But I have say, it's leading me toward one day getting a J... I can't write it, because if I do it might happen too soon. You're killin' me, guys! These comments are likely to push me over the 'press-Enter-to-buy' edge.

I don't have one but I like the look of the Bulbous shape because it doesn't have a extra long neck like the Chatsworth which looks like it has an extension between the handle and the head.

The Joris/Bulbous look more balanced in that respect to my eye.

    YMMV of course.

mhdena--Years ago I used to spend time around the Skunk Works in Palmdale--the high desert is nice country and only about 45-min from LA, depending on traffic, of course.
