Default Hone ID another mystery one....

    Hello again

I picked up another mystery hone the other day on UK Ebay..rather cute in a coffin shaped box....

At first I thought it might be a soft Arkansas variant...but now I'm not sure.

After checking the TATHS Hone book...I am now wondering if it is a Tam O'Shanter...

Being from the UK...I would guess it was the latter....

It is very soft but cuts quite fast...and it virtually makes a chalky slurry just looking at it!

Anyone want to confirm this for me...or is it something else!?

Maybe you know - since all 3 stones (Dalmore, Tam, Ayr) all come from the same vincinity, I've imagined that the differences would probably be each stone's geology. Do you know what the exact diffences are? There seems to be visible similarities - to some extent - between them, at least that's how it looks from photos posted on the internet.
Dalmores have always intrigued me - especially the heavily figured ones - but I'd like to know what makes it a Dalmore rather than a TOS.

You are right gamma this one looks like a mix between a TOS and a dalmore. having the speckles of a TOS and the swirl marks of a dalmore.
