Default Update: Just got my brush! Waiting on the razor.

Just received my H.I.S. brush and tried a few test lathers on Conk's Bay Rum (oh man does this stuff smell great!). I have a pic of the first one I did, which I thought was actually pretty good. I followed the steps of one of the tutorials in the Soap section that's a sticky and my lather turned out quite nice.

As far as the brush goes, WOW! I was blown away at how soft the tips are. I don't really have any other brush experience to compare it to so I can't make any judgments about the rest of the brush, other than it is a little too big for me. I don't have that big of a problem with it, though. My next brush will definitely be smaller. All in all, I'd say it's a great first brush- it may have set my expectations for softness too high, though!

Waiting on my Gillette blue-tip. Hopefully it gets here tomorrow like the Bay says. I'm going to go out and get a Mach 3 out of sheer impatience. Plus, I have to shave for work ;)

Yes, it is a big brush. I now use this when I travel even though it is huge since it dries very quickly. Although it is big it does a decent job in face lathering after using a shave stick.

I forgot to mention I tried one face lather. I had no idea what I was doing, but the lather wasn't too shabby. I would have shaved if I actually needed to, but I just rinsed it off.

Practice, practice, practice! You may not have a clue what you're doing but, that's all in the learning process.

Those tutorials combined with good equipment = great results. Hope that razor comes soon too!

First shave with an M3- not too shabby! I haven't shaved with a razor in a long time so my face was a little irritated after due to the abrasion of the blades and the brush (after so many lathers, even the super-soft HIS felt a little too rough!). I did 2 WTG passes, 1 XTG and 1 ATG (I don't have much facial hair and my skin is pretty oily naturally so it doesn't dislike this too much). However, after the first two passes I did have a SAS (for work!). Thanks again for replies/advice guys, and lets hope this blue tip gets here tomorrow!

That H.I.S brush is a killer. Get used to it and you won't switch.
