Default I might have to eat this soap. (MJ Soap Shop)

Someone please stop me! Along with a couple of regular soaps, I just received my special Canada Day Maple Cream shave soap from MJ Soap Shop, it looks and smells like food!

Very soft, a different texture from any other soap I own, with a creamy luxurious maple smell, I can't wait to shave with it, and there's the added bonus of them living about 40 minutes away from me.

I'll update later on with my results!

I come to you now clean shaven and maple scented!

Instead of my regular SOC boar, I opted to use a short lofted badger generously given to me by fellow member Blondie (I'll be posting a full write up of the brush sometime in the near future), and it didn't disappoint.

The soap lathered up easily, not a thin bubbly lather, but thick and slick enough that I had no trouble getting a smooth shave.

In the interest of being honest, I'll have to say that while it was perfectly usable, I wasn't astounded by the lather, it wasn't Tabac or Cella by any means, but all the same it's a solid performer and won't give you any trouble.

The real selling point on this remains the smell, if maple is your thing, then you'll be using this regularly. It reminds me of the filling of the maple cookies you can find around here (I don't know about in North Carolina or Stockholm), in the shape of a maple leaf. Really, the name of the soap says it all, this is some creamy maple.

I hope your soaps reach you soon, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Glad to hear it is maple-y! I am a huge fan of maple so I always keep maple syrup and maple butter stocked so I am sure I would enjoy this!
I ended up buying the soap because, well, it was cheap and I had just had an unpleasant experience with the Mama Bear soaps since they didn't agree with my face or nose even though they smell nice so I was in need of more soap!
I am sure it can get a great lather with some effort.. I mean, I even got a shaveable lather out of the absolutely horrid goat milk shaving soap I have!

Very excited to get the soaps!

Just received mine today... About to try a test lather.

The only things I can say so far are, it's very soft. I put it in an old Mama Bear container and it was easy to press in place.

As for the smell? Ohhhhh my god. My girlfriend and I just want to eat it. I'm going to have to order more once it's available just to stock up since she'll be using it too!

    ETA:

Lathered it up in my bowl. I'm not used to soap this soft so, I did the standard bit of warm water on it while my brush soaked. Then emptied that water into my bowl. Loaded my brush for about 20-25 seconds, which is MUCH less than I normally do harder soaps, but, still had decent results.

Upon building my lather, I had to add water 2-3 times (I wasn't building lather very quickly, but after adding it once or twice the soap exploded). To the point where I think it was maybe slightly over hydrated, BUT with that said, the soap was great in terms of lubricity. Felt quite slippery between the fingers, but protected pretty well. With such a small load time, I figure I could have gotten 2-3 passes still from what I had. BUT if I had to do it again, or rather, next time I do it, I'll be loading more as I'm used to and trying with a little less water. Check out the pictures and judge for yourself, perhaps I'm just used to not having bubbles or anything. O.o

As for the scent? When it was in the bowl pre lather it had a very strong maple smell. Once the lather built I really started to get a good sense of the vanilla coming out. By the time I was done, it was a nice smooth mix of the 2 scents and still very enjoyable.

Thanks for the kind comments guys! I did another run of Maple Cream this week, just waiting for it to harden a bit before I add it to the website stock.

To Mike_P: you should be OK if you load the brush a bit more. I don't know how large your brush it, but I load about 45-60 seconds with my Omega 31064. I like thick lather and I like to ressemble the arko guy when I shave lol

Kirill: Next time you order, if you're willing to wait a bit, we can probably make an arrangement for you to not have to pay any shipping. I'm often in your area as my father in law lives in Pont-Viau. Sometimes depending on the traffic i'll take the 15 highway at night to get home instead of the 13. I work in Ville Saint-Laurent so it's not too far off. I was somewhat nearby yesterday, went to the LMFAO concert with my son :)

I'll definitely take you up on that for my next order, especially if your other scents are as great as your Maple Cream! I hope you and your son enjoyed the concert, I was quite tempted to see Aerosmith, but I work Tuesday night.

Charles, sounds good! My girlfriend used it this morning with a longer load time (about a minute) and the lather was PERFECT. She said she's never had such a nice shave. So I believe I'll have to stock up on the Maple cream when it's back on the site. ;)

I think the reason it was better this time around is because the brush had bloomed more. What I originally used in the pictures above, was a brush I had just restored and so it was pretty much it's first go around lathering with it.

You sir, make an AWESOME product and the scent on it is, addicting!

Kirill, the show was amazing! Even if one of the guys was not there. Back injury it seems! I was real tempted by Aerosmith, but I need to keep a little bit of cash on hand for my summer vacation! North Carolina in 12 days! Woohoooo!

Mike, you do brush restores? Do you have any pics posted somewhere? At some point i'd like to get a really nice brush. I had two Frank Shaving brush and one Omega, which I like but it's a tiny bit floppy. I'm sure the same brush with a shorter loft would be perfect

Sounds very interesting. Its almost so I can smell it by reading your review. But does anyone of you know if they ship to Europe?

Yep! I have two pucks of the soap on the way here to Sweden. I cheaped out a bit and got the cheapest shipping option that takes longer to get here but they do ship here at least!

There you have it, they do ship to Europe. As it so happens, the gentleman who posted directly above you is the maker of the soap, one of the cool things about B&B. You'll have to wait a little while though, as he said, the soap needs to harden a little before being shipped out.

Charles, I dabble on some Ever Ready brushes. They've been great so far on your soap, I can tell you that! There's a few pictures on the restoration portion of the site of a 200T I did (Also happens to be the one I lathered with above).
