Default My shaving journey in pictures Fall of 1989 to the present....

I started shaving in earnest in the Fall of '89 when I was about to turn 17. As I recall, I did what everyone else was doing and grabbed a package of this:

As luck would have it, Gillette released their Sensor in early 1990 and my shaving got a bit better:

It was also around this time I used an electric off and on:

Then in 1993 I moved up to the SensorExcel:

Then joined the Mach 3 brigade in '99:

About this time I also discovered the joys of shaving with a brush.

Of course now in the Summer of 2012 I've become a devoted DE shaver and am starting out with a '57 Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip.

What journey did some of you take?

Like you, I started with the Bic disposables, along with a can of Barbasol. My first shave was at the tender age of 14. I realized very quickly why my dad would often leave the bathroom with a minefield of TP squares all over his neck and face. I did it that way until I received a Norelco electric for Christmas that year; I used it religiously for a couple of years until the blades started wearing out and tugging rather than cutting. From there, I used a beard trimmer intermittently (blades were too expensive) when the growth became too wild or I had somewhere special to go. After college, I switched up to a Fusion cartridge and used a brush/mug for my lather. When the price of replacement cartridges was far more outrageous than I thought, I went whole hog and bought a straight kit from Whipped Dog and a Gillette DE.

I never actually saved any money (the ADs hit rather hard for a while and ate up any potential savings), but my shaves are of a much greater quality than they ever were before.

A woman is only a woman but a Gillette TV Special is a shave.

I actually got a good start in 1973 with a schick injector! But I started with the track 2 and had everything Gillette offered through the Fusion. Started DE May last year.

I did learn well over ten years ago that using a brush and Williams in a mug and shaving in the shower with a couple of light passes was more comfortable. Stumbled on that without any forums, so I was prepped when I found this place. Transition was immediate with no real issues at all.
