Thread: Hi guy's

    Default Hi guy's

62year old highlander here, I had a full beard for over 20 years but due to work regulations I am having to shave again. Can I please ask if my initial set up is reasonable?
A Merkur 34c, (using the blade it came with) Bluebeards Revenge shaving cream, Vulfix best badger hair brush.
i have now shaved 3 times, getting on fine......a few wee nicks, but getting a pretty good shave.....struggling a wee bit getting the fairly deep cleft in my chin clean shaved.
I love to hear the sound of the razor working whilst shaving, and the unbelievably clean feeling after shaving.
Can I please ask what blades I should try and which lime balm I should buy?......I am using Castle Forbes cedar sandalwood aftershave balm.....makes my face feel great, but the smell is somewhat..different lol

Thank you in advance for any advice

Welcome to B&B. Your setup is just fine.

The question of which blades is a rather personal one, i.e., what blades I like may not be the ones the suit your face. The usual recommendation is to try a blade sampler. Just look at what some of the vendors on this site carry.

As for lime after shave balm, both T&H and Castle Forbes make such products and they should be readily available for you.

    Welcome to B&B!

Definitely check out a blade sampler. No two faces are the same so it'll take some trial runs to see what works for YOU.

In regards to a Lime balm, another option would be Queen Charlotte Soaps Key Lime ASB. QCS is an awesome company to deal with and are here on the the forums as well. They offer some great products!

Try a blade sampler that includes Astras (my favorite), personas, shark, feathers, Gillette etc. see review section for which blades are best and get a sampler that includes them. Good luck.

Welcome. I also use a Merkur razor, but I have never tried their blades. I can't say that I ever read good things about their blades here, so I would put a rush on that sample pack. I will add that Castle Forbes Lavender is my very favorite cream and, although it seems pricey, a little goes a long way.

Welcome! Like other posters have said, you will just have to experiment with blades. It all can depend on your beard, razor, technique, etc... But finding the right blade/razor combo is an exciting part of the journey.
