Default Time to take off the training wheels!

    Gentlemen,

I have been using a straight for about three months and have been shaving daily with one for about half of that time. Per most suggestions here, I have been using the same blade (my dovo 5/8ths) all the time until I got my technique down. I am doing fairly well and I think that I will soon bust out my Genco Head Barber 5/8ths and give it a whirl! I will probably wait until my next off day so I can take my time with it. Thanks for all the advice and help along the way and wish me luck!

I have been at it since last fall and the key for me is pulling the skin up over the jawbone when going WTG. Small movements or shifts with the head and neck can tighten the skin for a better shave. Go ahead, make a face - nobody is looking!

Give it a go, I wouldn't have waited this long. How is the edge on the Dovo holding up?

The edge to the dovo actually seems unchanged. I have a barber's hone that I give it a couple passes on every 5th shave or so.

So... WOW! I guess the edge of the Dovo wasn't that great. I was getting comfortable shaves with my Dovo but today I tried my Genco Head Barber 5/8ths that had been honed by a honemeister and it was a whole new experience. It was great and I got a great shave. The results were pretty similar to my previous shaves but the process was much smoother. I also used my Royall Lyme AS Lotion for the first time today!
