You make an interesting point. The original package is a very strong plastic case that will keep my razor safe in the event of an earthquake. It's something of a unique item as razor cases/boxes go. Perhaps I'll make a point of keeping mine. Perhaps one day Richard will market a good looking stainless steel box for the razor. That would no doubt just fly off the shelves.

The computer renderings I have seen are for a solid bar slant. They are working on an actual prototype, I hope will be finished sometime in August, for me to test. When I have one I will post photos.

Production update- the handles are being manufactured starting today and the heads will follow in the next few weeks. The SB, solid bar, head has received pretty rave reviews from the testers.

Current production handle specs are a just a bit different for the current production run, ~3.8 mm shorter and ~4 grams lighter. This was done solely to improve the razor's balance point as a result of additional testing. I have attached a photo of the new production handle- on top- and prior one. We also, after listening to much input, have gone with the plain cardboard box. A photo of that is attached also.

I am also very pleased to announce that Connaught Shaving will be Tradere's exclusive distributor for the UK.

    Richrd:

Will just the bottom plate be available or does one have to purchase a whole new head?

    Richard,

Will the new handle specs also be used for future open-comb razors?

Good question. I hope I will be able to just purchase the head as well. I doubt this will be the case though. It would be awesome to be able to switch just heads. Fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to buying a new one to go with my Tradere OC. Package it nice - cost is far less important to me than the high quality and the presentation to go with it.

But in the end, I just couldn't resist the looks and quality of the razor. Looks so well built and all the reviews back it up. I am glad this razor is giong be available because it will be a great option if the OC is too aggressive for me.
I also couldn't resist ordering the OC model - purely to become a member of the Tradere Club!

Looking forward to the solid bar head - do you think that it will also be available as as a head only purchase???

You will definitely not be disappointed with the OC. It is a great razor.

    This.

I was reminded of just how great this morning when I shaved with mine. And if you're wary of the longer handle, don't be. I found it to be a nice boon when shaving ATG.

I think it's a mistake to go downhill with the cardboard packaging. As I mentioned already, the tradition of the exceptional razor makers was to use classic nicely done razor/blades boxing to deliver their wonderful razors in a "kingly" box.

Maybe it's PC to adore cardboard, but in the world of razor collecting, a nice classy box makes the razor value go way up. Cardboard boxes most likely won't make it very long, so the Tradere razors will not have a legendary box for collectors to find in somebody's estate sale.

If you must go the green, at least offer the option of getting a quality box with each order. That seems like a win-win unless the costs to offer both types hurts the bottom line.

Good call to use Connaughts. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I agree. I too would be willing to pay extra for the option to acquire a quality box.

I agree, a quality good looking box would be a fine option. But in my view, only as an option, not as something one must purchase to obtain a razor. Some time ago Muhle offered an "art deco" style metal box. I regret not having bought one when they were available. I did find a really nice looking brass "treasure chest" type box on the bay years ago and it happens to be a fine fit for a razor. It doesn't work well with the Tradere but it sure does for others.

For what it's worth, I suspect that a Tradere style brush would be a better addition to the Tradere line than a box, but that's just speculation.

I have the original handle and I love it. If I could change anything, I would make it slightly shorter and slightly lighter.

It looks like version number two of the handle will end up being my holy grail handle.

maybe eventually I'll be able to trade the original for a version 2? Probably there will be somebody with the new handle who will think "if only it were slightly longer and slightly heavier."
