Default The barber gave me a red neck today.

I went to a new barber in town to get a trim and left with red patches on the back of my neck. When he was using a small trimmer on my neck line I could feel some discomfort. When I got home I looked in the mirror and it looks like I have a sunburn where he used the trimmer from the hair line to wear my shirt collar starts. I applied some witch hazel that stung when I was putting it on. Does anyone have any other suggestions to reduce the reddness? Thanks.

Red necks are not pets! Release him back to the wild. Just kidding. Try some Neosporin. I have heard it described as the duct tape of first aid here and I think that is a fitting description.

    Solarcaine if you have it.
Lose the barber with the dull clippers.

He's a retired cop from Odessa and he reopened the old barber shop where I got my first haircut close to 35 years ago. The former barber passed away last year after cutting hair at the same place since I was born. The new barber is a real nice guy and I will mention the red neck to him the next time I'm there.

Second thought, I will try and go by there tomorrow so he can see what happened so another customer doesn't suffer the same fate. Who knows, I might get a free haircut out of it.

I mustache you a question, since a little beard told me or do you want me to shave it?

Pass along your experience to him, he'll probably appreciate the feedback, and your next haircut might be on the house!

I had that happen where I used to get my hair cut. Most of the ladies were okay, but there was one who used the clippers like she was planing wood or something!

That looks like my Airedale . . . only a little flatter, and not nearly as hyper.

Could be the setting on the clippers was too low. My mom is a barber and occasionally this happens when clippers aren't adjusted right. Your barber just needs to back it off a tad and tighten them back down. Sometimes the quest for incredibly close neck trimmings with a clipper can be better resolved by having your barber bust out the straight razor, its what they're trained to use after all.

I always shave the back of my neck in the shower. My barber stays off my neck.

First try an over hand right, then a jab with the left. Just kidding.
I'm sure he'll take care of you on the next visit.

Probably blunt blades tearing the hair out which has caused the irritation.

After getting home from work yesterday morning my neck still had some patchy red areas. I decide I would go by and see the barber after getting some sleep. I woke up around noon and guess what? The reddness was pretty much gone. I've heard it said that our body's heal and repair when we sleep. So the next time you have a bad case of razor burn, tell the wife you have to go sleep it off!

My barber's a good cutter, but he seems to like to dig those clippers in on the back of my neck too. One day, I took a chance and brought my shavette and tube of shave cream in, then asked him to shave my neck with that instead. So he used that and seemed to know that a light touch was all that was required. He shaved the back of my neck, leveled up my sideburns and lined me up with the shavette instead of the clippers. He seemed to like it really well. The next time I went by, I found that he'd bought a shavette, blades and cream of his own and had been using it for neck shaves and lining up ever since.

    That's awesome!
Maybe you can get him to give full shaves with the straight razor too?
