    Default YMCA take 2!

Joined up at the Y again. Last time I didn't have any kids and after about 7 months I couldn't put up with the plethora of people that didn't have a clue what they were doing. It drove me to discover Crossfit. Still enjoy Crossfit but injured my shoulder pretty bad and haven't been able to do it for quite some time

This time I have a 4 year old daughter and hope to get more bang for my buck

Rorpen-I just left our new Y, at which I have been working out faithfully for 5 months with great results. You definitely have to pick your day and time. I went last night, and the place was wall to wall with all the bros and homies hogging all the good stations and playing with their phones. (Still, a few let me work in, as I'm an older guy, and I don't thing they see me as a threat to the whole macho thing-plus, I teach/have taught quite a few of them). This evening, it was practically deserted, which I love-I guess everyone is out partying, showing off all the muscles and tatoos!

One way I have tried to turn a potential negative conflict situation into a positive is this: say I want to bench press or do squats, and the stations available look pretty locked up. I just scout around for a dumbell or machine alternative that works the same area, and bomb away. I have gotten in some awesome workouts that way, and I keep my body and muscles guessing.

As for kids, my boys are 15 and 18, and so kind of do their own thing (or embarrass me at mine). Our Y has day care, a really cool indoor water-park, and all kinds of games and stuff for kids. It really is the best money I have ever spent on my family. I hope you can look past all the annoying people (they're all in a 10-page rant on here somewhere) and just do your thing!

Been working out at the Y for 2 years now and as ScoutHiker said pick your times to go. I usually go twice a day. Early of a morning from 0600 to about 1100 the older generation shows up and does there Cardio (Treadmill,Bikes, Ellipticals) so that's when i do weights. That evening when the normal people get off work i go back for Cardio because the younger generation are lifting weights so i usually run on the treadmill. It is what you make of it, the hardest part is showing up. The rest is up to you. Good luck and congrats on taking the first step!!
