Default My DIY sample pack, what should I try first

    Hi Gents
I've been looking for sharper blades and finally broke down and did some internet shopping. I couldn't find a sampler pack that had what I wanted to try in it so I found the best prices and just made my own. David at razorbladesandmore.com was nice enough to throw in some supermax blades for free! Thanks David, you rock! I was wondering which one I should try first and if there was anything I should be doing differently when I go to a sharper blade? My technique has improved drastically and I'm getting DFS, with BBS in some areas, everyday with minimal irritation and very little or no blood. I've been using generic personnas for the last couple weeks and they've been doing fine. I've also tried merkur, gillette platinums(silver/blue box), and wilkinson swords. Most of my shaving has been done with a 38c barber pole but a few shaves have been with a '40's open comb gillette NEW. Any suggestions would be awesome!

I got a similar sampler pack and started with e green Gillettes. They work pretty good for me. But then again they were replacing the Merkur blades.

I also have the 38c. I have found that the sharper blades worked best for me. Of the ones that you have, the Gillette greens were just o.k., the Astra's work really well and the Feathers worked the best. I have some Supermax but haven't had a chance to try them. The Feathers would be considered the sharpest of those I've had experience with in your package.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

DWB, thanks for the input. I was thinking of starting with the Astra's because everyone seems to like them here. I want to try the Feathers but I'm a little nervous to try. I can say I agree with you on sharpness(as far as I know) with my 38c. Those Merkurs were terrible in it and it's gotten better with different blades. But I can tell it can only get better with a sharper blade.

That's an awesome reference Christopher! I'm definitely going to record my shaves. I'm a bit obsessive with excel (you should see the WS for my finances!). Sending you a PM for that spreadsheet, will save me a ton of time.
I started with the Astras last night(yes I shaved twice yesterday). It was the best shave I've had by far. Much closer
much faster! I can see why everyone likes these so much. Gonna stick with it for a solid week before I move on.

They're my favorite so far! But they're also the only ones I've tried of the lot

    Welcome. Learn. Enjoy!

I mostly shave with Astra SPs, but I am constantly trying other blades. There's nothing wrong with the Astras; I just do it out of curiosity, just to stay current on the state of the shave.
