    Default Sunblock?

I went to the dermatologist today and I've got the skin cancer (not the bad kind).
But it means I'm going to have to take sunblock seriously from here on out. Is there high SPF sunblock that does not make one feel like you just cleaned out the grease traps at KFC?

How about sunblock soap; is there a sunblock soap?

If your derm was any good, he would not only give you a few recommendations, but have some samples on hand--------that's his job!!

Mine carries Eucerin products, among others. Here's one:

He gave me an info packet the size of a Brooklyn yellow pages. Lots of info about effectiveness, not much on how they feel though. Usually sunblocks make me feel like I've been sealed in plastic wrap.

Soltan made by Boots offers good protection and is a nice light cream that feels no different than applying a moisturizer it's not too greasy and absorbs pretty fast, But I don't know if they're available in the states. Epionce is also a good brand I tried their factor 50 and it's application wasn't as heavy as I was expecting I didn't find it to be excessively oily and I didn't feel like I was wrapped in plastic.

One thing I have read is that, on-going research suggests that anti-oxidants are good at promoting the skins natural ability to protect itself from the sun. Now obviously they won't to make you invincible, but they may offer an added boost, so maybe you should consider a sunblock that contains some antioxidants

I'm really sorry for your health issue. Be very careful with sunblockers. SPF means almost nothing, as it only measures the ability to block UVB radiation. UVB radiation causes sunburn. UVA radiation on the other hand causes skin aging and melanoma (worst type of skin cancer), and many over the counter sunscreens do not provide good protection against UVA radiation. My advice is: get a physical sunscreen, instead of a chemical one.

Physical sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are mineral blockers. They work by reflecting and scattering lightning. Chemical sunscreens work absorbing lightning. Many chemical sunscreens contains oxybenzone, which increases skin's sensibility, massively increasing free radicals.

Mexitan Sunscreen SPF 50 has excellent UVA and UVB protection and the following ingredient list:

INGREDIENTS: Zinc Oxide (22.5%), Titanium Dioxide (6%), Deionized Water, Sunflower Oil, Lecithin, Coconut Oil, Glycerine, Xanthan Gum, Green Tea Extract, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Shea Butter, Eucalyptus Oil
After sun exposure you should use a lotion containing anti-oxidants, like green tea, rose hip seed oil.

A doctor recommended the following key ingredients:

Octinoxate 7.5%, Octocrylene 8.0% and Zinc Oxide 6.86%. Available from CVS pharmacy for at a reasonable price.

I live in a high UV area. This product works well.

This is one of the few sunblocks that don't make my skin break out. I use it every day, without exception.

I feel your pain man, I went there today and was told I need to start with the sun block or I'm going to have troubles, I was recommend moisturizer which has a high SPF rating and also don't forget you will need to use what ever you chose a couple times a day.

Had all kind of pre cancerous weirdness burned off my arm some years back. Living in the sun and knowing nothing about sunblocks back in the day will do that. As I still live on the beach (literally) and spend much time outdoors, sunblock is a part of my life. Your concern about not slathering yourself in goop is legit....that's why we use Bullfrog. Crazy water resistant and residue free, this is some great stuff. Readily available at most drug stores (Walgreens, CVS, etc.)

The only sunblock I use is Bullfrog, specifically the rub in one with the red cap. I met a fair skinned surfer a few years back and he said it's all he uses when he goes out on the waves. Just one application and it lasts all day. So far its worked for me and I go out to the sunny beaches here often. It helps to get wet first and then apply the sunblock so it's easier to spread and you don't waste product. Most other sunblocks have utterly failed compared to the Bullfrog.

A BIG +1 to that! Think of it like this...the chemical sunscreens absorb the UV energy, but this energy has to then be released somewhere else, and thats in your body doing who knows what. Physical sunscreens are the way to go.

tried elta md clear 45 today for the first time. got it from lovelyskin.com who is having a sale right now. put it on right after shaving and then splashed on some clubman. initial impression is that this is truly a light, non greasy (advertised as oil free) cream with no discernible scent. no adverse effects on the aftershave scent. face feels well moisturized and smooth. will report back in a few days re any breakouts. but thus far, this feels better than every man jack, l'oreal and neutrogena triple protect.

Is this the one you're using: http://eltamd.com/ProductDetail.aspx?p=18 ?

I'm using one and I like it as a sunscreen, but I'm using a prescription acne medication and could use some very light moisturizer. Do you find the one you're using to be moisturizing?

i ordered both the shield and clear types. so far have just used the shield. it's oil free and well moisturizing for my skin so far in the summer. i have oily skin to begin with though.

That's actually the one I'm using. I have extraordinarily oily skin and it goes on great.

Actually, the big problem is that I've developed some sort of a rash at the base of my neck/jaw area where the hair stops growing. This is well below where I put the acne medication. I think that the rash is from shaving and not using any sort of soothing product afterwards. I have no idea. It's red and very uncomfortable. I've never had anything like it before. That's why I thought a more moisturizing sunblock would work better.

Let me know what you think of the UV Clear one.
