Default TOBS Mr Taylors - irritates my skin

    Hi!

Recently received my first TOBS cream (Mr Taylors) after mostly using soaps.

Today was my second shave with this cream and shave was great.
The TOBS cream really does make a great lather (for a newbie like me) and i love the smell.

But...The cream irritates my skin. I can feel it during the shave and still do more than an hour after.
This also happened with C&E Sandalwood soap. (Another scent i loved)
A shame I have to stop using this cream after only 2 shaves.

    So my questions are:
    Are there any similarities these?
Some ingredient i should try avoid in the future?
Could it be some (or all) fragrance oil? (As I have read here others are sensitive to)

I should mention that I do not get this when using Proraso cream, I Coloniali soap, Mama Bear Rosemary Mint or Cella.

If you like the Mr Taylors, I'd suggest trying the TOBS Jermyn Street. It's for sensitive skin and has a scent in the same general family as the Mr. Taylors. FWIW, I also like the Mr. Taylors, but I like Jermyn Street better.

Mr. Taylors is my favorite TOBS shaving cream. It could honestly be a number of ingredients that are irritating your skin. TOBS sandalwood irritated me to the point that my face was red and burning.

Just a note of caution here. I am probably a weirdo, but Jermyn Street produced the most awful skin reaction I have ever experienced with any cream or soap. The super-cooling menthol products are also in the running (to be avoided).

    Try these:

    Truefitt & Hill Grafton
    Geo F Trumper GFT
    DR Harris Windsor
Taylor of old Bond Street Jermyn Street
    Penhaligon Blenheims Bouquet

Grafton reminded me most of the Mr. Taylor scent....the others are just good cologne scented creams with a tiny bit of resemblance to the Mr. Taylor cream, but all are very good IMHO.

Just bare in mind that several things can cause skin irritation and that cologne scented creams tend to cause irritation more often than more natural scented creams will.

Good luck - hope you find a good cologne scented cream you like the scent of and that don't give you skin irritation !

    Thanks guys!

I guess I just have to try out more creams and soaps. (So many AD's in development )

New question for you: How do I know if a soap or cream is cologne scented or natural scented?

I will probably get a couple of tubes of other TOBS scents to try. I'm thinking Avocado and the Jermyn st.
I think also its time to try the Tabac soap. Just hope I like the scent of it, as I have read quite a few that does not care for it at all.

You won't know, but if a cream have a strong cologne type unnatural fragrance scent, you can be sure it is not natural essential oils, which has given it its scent.

You may find a cologne scented cream your skin likes, so keep on testing them - if you're allergic to perfume/fragrance then try to use one of the very mild creams out there, like AOS Unscented, TOBS Avocado, TOBS Jermyn Street, TF&H Rose, TF&H Ultimate Comfort, GFT Coconut, Fitjar Shea Pleasure - you may still react to them, so you just have to test and test until you find nirvana

    Thanks Claus!

Maybe I should try Fitjar as well. They are, after all, made by us "norske fjellaber".

I found that TOBS rose scent *slightly* irritated my skin (or I'm just going crazy).

Try Edwin Jagger creams that have 100% natural ingredients that avoid possibly irritating preservatives, colors, or anti-bacterial agents. Speick is another great natural product too.

I have real sensitive skin and fragrance oils seem to be a suspect. I got samples of the TOBS line from Shoebox and Mr. Taylor irritated me too. The Jermyn Street did not. Since you mentioned Tabac, it has a strong scent and I thought it would irritate me too. It didn't. It makes my skin feel real good. They must use essential oils. Go figure. I guess all we sensitive skin types can do is experiment and use what works.

I had the same problem with Eaton College, but I stuck with it, and after 3 or 4 shaves, it went away. No problems anymore.

Some people make TOBS to thick (i used to do this when i got my first tub)

ALL the TOBS cream will give a slight burn lathering up for the 2nd or 3rd time if you dont hydrate them enough

this has been discussed alot here, moral

    ADD MORE WATER.

I would suggest you switch to another brand as I expect many of the ingredients are common to all TOBS.

The Tabac cream is excellent if its a cream you are looking for.

T&H do a sensitive skin cream.
