    Default Saying goodbye to MWF

I gave up on my MWF after 7 attempts to get a decent lather.

I just dont see the point in using a soap that makes you angry when you lather it. I'll stick to my Cella, Tabac and Arko :P

IM with you on that. I never receive stellar shaves from it. I keep it because it has a handsome dish....haha

I don't have a puck of MWF but have you tried soaking the puck when you soak the brush? I've heard that MWF is a soap that likes to be used daily so it keeps hydrated and nice. It's also supposedly better to facelather than going at it in a bowl.

Yep. I'd also add that a boar or 2-band brush really helps. Lather worthy of God himself.

I hated it to begin with as well but I guarantee you it is a stellar soap.

It took me some weeks to get the hang of it but today it is one of my favourites and I use it summer as well as winter.
It is so mild I really cannot feel a need for a balm after a shave (I shave agressively) - this coming from a guy with a pretty bad case of psoriasis.

    ___

I bowl lather mine without soaking it before use.
Works like a charm without it so why bother?

Life is too short and there are too many other choices to get too worked up over a soap. If a soap doesn't impress, just move on. I gave MWF more than a fair shot and was never impressed. PIF'd it. Done.

I felt the same way about MW. I don't have the time to "dial in" a shaving product. Now MWF came pretty easy after watching Mantic's video

This rings truer to me than even a week ago. Some truly great and easy to use soaps and creams. It ain't a contest and there's no rule that says you have use/love/own MWF. I own it, use it and love it, but there's no reason you should. I've pif'ed or traded some much loved soaps already and have no regrets.

Sell the MWF or, better yet, cut it up and PIF it to some other newbies and thereby generate some Karma.

Your avatar's hilarious! In the doses I've seen of that guy so far(which included his obsession w/ a deceased Indiana steakhouse), I think he's the funniest 'straight man' I've seen.

It's never given me a problem. Wet puck 5 min before, squeezed out brush, load it up and make lather. Add some water. Voila.
I think there's a video on how to.

Guess we each have our problems.

I lather MWF without hassle but cannot get anything decent from Proraso, which is supposed to be a lot easier.

It really is a great soap. The only soap I've given up on so far is Williams. I'm still working on my puck of Eucris believe it or not.

Before any/everyone gets offended, this isn't directed towards anyone in particular. Just an observation.

I sometimes think that the really "easy to lather" soaps create problems because, every soap (yes every soap) has a method that produces the best lather for that soap. Some soaps create subpar lather very easily and people call them easy soaps. But every soap needs a certain method or methods to create its "best" lather. Once you get that down, it is easy. That is how I feel about MWF; once you find your technique it is a matter of swirling the brush on the soap (given the other variables) just like any other. Sure, Product X may allow you to create a useable - if not ideal - lather without any tricks, but who cares. This is why I don't see MWF as a hard to lather soap.

Your other soaps wouldn't really be leaving you at a loss. Shame you can't get on with the fat though, it is great soap. Not sure if you own a boar hair brush, but that is what really made the difference for me getting OK lather and great lather with MWF.

Boar works best for me too. My horse hair doesn't seem to get on with it.

For me, lather with MWF was inconsistent at the best of times. One good, four or five bad, when it was good - it really was a nice shave - but for most of the time it just was barely passable. I sent it off in trade and have never been tempted to try it again.

You have very hard water in Dorset. Do you have a water softener? Sorry to ask, maybe it is the hardness, maybe the temperature? I could not believe the deposit I got on my shaving gear when in Dorset. Mind you, never tried MWF while there. Proraso seemed unaffected by water hardness.

I have water softener and find that i have very soft water :P

I also cant stand the sound MWF makes when lathering. Makes me think there is something wrong with my Ears.

Oh, I seeeeee. That kind of MWF. Hmmmmm, I thought we were talking about Mitchell's shaving soap. Now I understand, and your Ears, hmmmm.
Best thing to do is stop whatever makes you angry.
