I ordered alum off of Amazon and it was beaten up so bad during shipping it was unusable. Then I was at the grocery store and found alum chunks for about 90 cents. Is this the same alum that I paid $12 for online?

Could be.... my first alum block came in an Edwin Jagger wrapper which made it worth over $20..... the last two orders I've made online came with complimentary alum blocks in the package. I don't know exactly what your local grocery store is selling, but there's a good chance you can get the same product for alot less than $12 I suppose.

It usually is the same thing. I bought the expensive kind before but went to the Indian goods store and found they had $2 blocks of the alum minus the nice case. Its all the same as long as its alum.
EXPECT success in every shave and the universe will certainly make way for that success.
You can melt the beat up alum in a double boiler and pour it into a glass bowl or sumthin...so I heard. No personal experience tho.

Melting point is ~90*C, so you could use a double boiler system to keep the heat regulated. I haven't tried it, but I know it's possible.
