The number refers to the number of distinct colored bands on the hair.

They're different so one isn't necessarily better than the other. It just depends on what you like.

There are plenty of difference between the kinds: backbone, softness, density. These differences will vary between brands. In general, two-band brushes have more backbone than three-band brushes if the two brushes have the some loft height, knot size, and density. Feel free to read any of the threads below for more information. You can also type into Google site:badgerandblade.com to do a Google search of B&B to find more information about your question.

2 band hair is like an 8wt flyrod Still real flexible at the tip but a lot thicker down the shaft and silvertip or 3 band is like a 5wt flyrod just plain soft the whole way. 2band is a bit coarser feeling but not scratchy. Its great for face lathering and soaps and silver tips which still good for both are softer feeling.

It's very nice. dense (very dense I would say) but soft on top. It also has a 60mm handle, which i love. It's longer than most handles making it easier for me to swirl in my bowl.

I recently bought a (cheap) 2-band travel brush. Now I really like 2-band and will buy a bigger one soon!
I am still dreaming. Still, am I?

My Rooney Victorian (2-band) arrived today. I shampooed it and it's now drying. I'll withhold my initial impressions until it blooms and I can get a good shave with it.
