    Default Yet another newbie

I've actually have been a member here for a long time, but that's only because a couple years ago I joined trying to figure out what a couple of old razors I had sitting around my house were worth. I've always done a wet shave, I never liked electric razors, but up till now I've been using a gillette fusion. Recently I bought a bar of lightfoot pine shave soap and a shave brush. Then today I was at an antique flea market and decided I would like to try a straight razor shave so I looked around and found a nice condition Krusius Brothers KB extra razor for $5. I've been reading the shave wiki and can't wait to try it out but I guess I should find myself a strop first since even though the blade is really sharp it should be honed. Well I just thought I would stop in and say hi and see if anyone has any pointers for me before I start.

Welcome to B&B. You might want to read through the Straight Razor wiki pages before you dive in with the straight. For one thing, a strop won't hone your new razor..you'll need hones for that (it's very unlikely that it's shave ready as you found it). Strops are just used for keeping an edge at it's best between honings. You might consider sending it off to be honed by one of the honemeisters in your area. This will make your first shave as enjoyable as it can be, and you'll know what a shave ready edge feels like.
