Default Perfect Aftershave to Follow Martin de Candre?

I did it! I got the best deal I could see myself getting and bought a jar of Martin de Candre! Yea me! It'll get here when it gets here, not sure when. But it got me thinking... ..

I need the PERFECT aftershave to follow up an MdC shave!

Aftershave, to me, is an important part of my shave routine. I'm also almost exclusively a splash or light lotion guy. I'd like to get one that pairs just right with the MdC. Here's the "conditions". It needs to be a product I can order online from a US/CAN vendor please. .

Thanks all! Hopefully this one can help other's find this answer too!

EDIT: Since there's at least several gents who are in this same boat, it's not fair to limit things only to splashes. So please, all aftershave product suggestions welcome!

    Hey John,
I just got the MdC as well and have had a couple of shaves already. It's a very strong lavender scent, but after the shave, there's very little scent left over so I think you can probably use whatever aftershave you feel like wearing. Those following me on this thread feel free to disagree. If I'm wrong, happy to exchange truth for error.

You could use a French AS, as in Provence Sante Green Tea. Si vous voudrais de rase avec le produits francais! Ou vous pouvez utiliser le Pinaud peut-être?

    Thanks Mark!

That is pretty common with all the lavender products I've tried, so you are pretty much right I think. I could use the Razorock King Louis AS Lotion spray, which works amazing. Though it tends to be a sweeter lavender than MdC. I'm hoping for something that is similarly sharp and earthy like MdC. Maybe someone has found something like that, and it can help us both out!

Thanks rebos! And thanks Bing Translator LOL! The Provence Sante sounds nice, I've never tried any of their products. To be honest, I haven't found a Pinaud product I liked that much. But a French pairing sounds nice! Any more suggestions like that?

No problem. I just finished a French course so I'm trying to practice wherever I can. Just realized that my "le produits" should be "les produits".

I do quite like the scent of the provence sante green tea soap. I haven't tryed the AS -- though I'd like to.

i've been using something as simple as 444 mixed with Thayers WH.

if you got the Lavender WH, it may be a nice mix. the 444 gives a nice summer, menthol kick, and the thayers adds the "splash" portion.

i'm a balm guy, or i'd have suggested the RR King Louis too, that's what i use sometimes (kind of grapy scented, but it works)

** edit ** just ordered a bottle of Lavender Thayers, so i'll be the guinea pig for you.

Awesome, keep up the practice! It sounds like a nice AS to me also, even if there is like one description of it out there! And what exactly is a "caffeinated" AS? LOL

I may have to give it a try. Any experience with the Verlain version? That description is equally as unhelpful.

I was hoping you'd chime in Bruce! The KL is a good idea, I have the AS spray which I love. As of now it'll likely be my first choice before finding a matchup.

is the 444, which everyone seems to be mixing around here, a simple menthol with little scent? To be honest, a like a touch of menthol, not really a kick LOL

General Question for anyone: What about something like Agua Lavanda Puig, or something Lavanda?

Hah! I love the idea of a caffeinated AS. It sounds delicious --and it might just provide the kind of kick one's face needs in the morning. I have heard very mixed reviews of the Verlaine. My impression is that its an either "love it" or "detest it" kind of scent. It's another one that I'd like to at least try out. Perhaps someone who has used that one will chime in.

i picked up the 444 from IB on my last order. i use a pea sized amount and then some Thayers (just ordered the Lavender minutes ago).

i think it's just straight menthol, but you can't use it alone. it's very thick and tacky, made to mix with a Splash. i had no idea what it was when i ordered and i'm loving it.

it's got some kick, but you can dilute it with whatever splash or thayers and adjust accordingly.

i was hoping to pick up some Lavanda from connaught a few weeks ago, but waited too long (it was on clearance) and missed out

Thanks for the heads up on the 444! I dunno, may pass to be honest, as it sounds a bit more than I'd prefer. Which Lavanda were you planning on? The Puig? I've been eyeing it for a long time now, and it comes in a giant bottle!

And hey, as a side note. What happened to your custom title??? That was the best custom title around here!

Hi John, have you ever used the Speick splash? In my experience, it's definitely not a precise match, but it has great skin care and will be a touch more "earthy" than the King Louis.
I'm excited to see what the consensus here is and what you end up with.

    Hey Brian!

I actually have Speick, and thats not a bad idea! I like it, but dont wear it often to be honest. It's a little too... "warm" for me, if that makes any sense. But I do like it!

I'm interested to see what the consensus is too, and I know you are as a recent MdC believer like me!

Great tips from the members especially if you want to stay within the similar scent family. I've used it a few times and have used Clubman, Trafalgar, and vintage Avon Wild-Country. The lavender mint scent is rich and complex but not overpowering. I just did a back to back comparison with Cade and MDC came out on top.

Ahh. I have this aftershave and the matching cologne.... but no MdC!!!
    Poor me.

(I tried to buy some last week at 20% off but there was a payment error when I hit the complete order button. I emailed them and they responded saying that they were having bank issues but they had worked them out and that I could order and it would work the next time. By then I had spent the money on something else.... being impatient)

I'm hoping that the herbal lavender of Speick AS works as a good compliment to MdC.

I decided that it wasn't right to limit this, as there are other guys who'd want to know this question, but aren't exclusive splash guys. So lets open it up to all aftershave suggestions please!

So far contenders are Provence Sante Green Tea, Speick and Razorock King Louis.

My twisted little idea oriented brain is cooking somethin' up on how to actually make what I'm looking for.... hehehe!
