Sure, I like to think most of my shaves are above average. But then, every once in a while you have a shave where things really come together for pure excellence. My last two shaves were like this. One was a freshly honed GD atrocity, and it hit that perfect pitch of keeness and comfort that was a step up from most days. Like I could do no wrong. Was it the particular honing? Was is the lather that day (Williams...)? Water temp in the pre-shave shower? Did I strop it a particular way?
I dunno, but I had an excellent shave regardless. Really enjoyed it, no rawness, pure BBS, soft feeling skin, no stubble whatsoever for 12+ hours...the whole deal.
And then tonight. I am up in Maine for the weekend, so I threw the Feather DX nonfolding in the Dopp kit for wash and wear ease of use. I think this is shave #3 on the KAI Mild blade in there. Whipped up some C&S #88, no preshave shower, just splash and go, but I let the lather soak in for a bit. Again: BAM, a terrific shave. The edge just glided along the skin removing the whiskers, but not perturbing the dermal layer at all. WTG, ATG- done. BBS. A quick refreshing splash of Lucido spiked with Alt Insbruck sealed the deal. Great shave, zero complaints.
Two very different setups, but two very awesome shaves. What a great hobby!
