    Default What was your worst cut from?

    Only answer if you have used straight razors and DE. What has cut you worst, straight razor or a DE?

    edit:1. If it's from a single edge safety razor just vote for the DE safety razor.

    2. Any type of cut, nick, gash, or mortal wound counts.

    Need another option. I have used both straight and DE, not to mention SE razors, and the worst cut I got was from a cartridge razor that caught my lip years ago.
    Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

    Neither. I've had my share of nicks from both but no cuts yet, knock on wood.

    I've only shaved 3 times with my straight and got two lovely cuts to show for it, one on either cheek! First is about 3/4" long, the other 1/2". Neither are very deep but are annoying as I can't shave over them easily. In any case, chicks dig scars.

    Shavette... I packed one of those instead of a normal straight for travel a few months back. It was a cheap one. (Shoulda at least packed my parker). Blade got loose / wonky and I didn't notice. Spent the last 2 days explaining the 2.5 inch red line on my cheek. I voted straight due to the principal of the matter, but I've ACTUALLY had worse cuts from an SE than a normal straight razor.

    Nothing but a few nicks with the DE, but over the last year and a half with the straight I have had my share in divers places.

    Straight. A pretty good cut on my chin from my first shave. Got a lot lighter touch after that one.

    Mine was from a straight when I was 18 yo. We had a half bath downstairs under the steps that I was shaving in. I left e door open a crack, which in our household meant unoccupied. My sister walked in the door bumped me as I was shaving my chin. I still have a faint scar from it after all these years. The bathroom looked like something out of a Saw movie.

    I had a freshly honed straight that I did and I brought the str8 to my face to fast and bam and nice long, long cut, yeah that was this morning 6.22.2012. That's like the second time, shave was awesome after that. With a DE I just got irritation and my GF had to tweeze me. Then I sold the DE on BST and never used one again. I'd rather get a thin cut then irritation all on my neck.

    OK... Worst cut was with a Mach 3 but that isn't what you asked. Good story, though... but you didn't ask... ;-}

    After that, the worst cut was probably with a DE - I was using a Futur and had it dialed too far over. Was shaving my head and peeled about 3 inches of skin across the top. Very thin but painful and it took a week to heal. Next was doing atg on the back of my neck with a straight and forgot to bend my head forwards. Took a wrinkle out of my neck. ;-}

    Most of the time, if I get a weeper, it is minor. I really don't expect to slice myself up again but SWMBO could open a drawer against my leg while I have a Feather AC on my cheek (4th worst cut).

    edit: Oh... no scars from any of that.

    Mine was with a very sharp square point on a straight. Now I see the attraction of a round point straight! It was during the "learning curve" portion of my journey.

    After a few months with my straights, I went back to my SE. Nasty cut just above my lip....back in the drawer it went to collect more dust and think about what it did to me.

    Frequency or severity? DE more than a few good nicks but mostly when I was trying out new blades or a new razor. My Tech with a Ladas or Dorco 301 never gives me a problem. Straight only 1, one inch long cut that was pretty deep but it was not my usual straight. I Should never have wandered from the Swedish steel.

    I once put a really good gash on my neck with a straight razor. I lost concentration and misjudged. I feared that I would have to have stitches, but I was able to get the bleeding to stop. At least it did not leave a noticeable scar.

    I am fairly inexperienced with the straight razor, but my worst cut has been from my DE. I have fairly big scar on my upper lip from downhill biking and I was hurrying through a shave with the DE and it caught on the lower edge of the scar. Nothing too ghastly but it bled on and off for the rest of the day. Luckily, because it wont leave a mark because it is already on a scar.

    my worst cut was with a DE. I was changing the blade and cut my finger. Still got the scar, almost 40 years later.
