+1 for Utz. Miss Vickie's is also good. As long as it is kettle cooked, it should be good.

If you're looking for something slightly different, try the salt & vinegar chips from Pop Chips. The chips are sort of air popped but crunchy and supposedly slightly healthier. I'm a huge fan of them.

I have been on a quest to answer this question for ages! Here are my favorites in order so far.

    1. Miss Vickie's gets the nod for my top spot. Always good. Always flavorful. Always crunchy!
    2. Krunchers! These things nip at Vickie's heels! SUPER FLAVORFUL and almost overpowering depending on the bag or if, like me, you pour all the tiny crushed bits at the bottom of the bag down your gullet! Also, these are super crunchy as the name implies.
    3. Kettle. These are a good go to for me but I feel they can lack flavor depending on the bag. Something about them is just not as satisfying as the previous two. Maybe its the fact that they try to be healthy. Who wants a healthy chip
    4. Zapp's is a chip that I do not find often but when I do they are consistently good! I marked them lower because half the time I think I like them better because I am surprised that they are still around.
    5. Cape Cod. Theses are a little lighter on flavor and a little thinner of a chip but still delicious and easily munchable!
    6. Lay's. These get a little higher mark than they should because they are the chip that started me on this voyage. The flavor is a little more artificial than the others but value is higher. They are also extremely addictive, maybe even more so than some of the higher ranked competitors for some reason. Big business is probably adding addictive substances to the chips
    7. Appropriately making number 7; the 7-11 brand chip! These are good. A little artificial and similar to the Lay's but at $.79 how can you beat them?
    8. Jimmy Chips- these are the Jimmy John's brand salt and vinegars. They are good but they almost taste like a poorly-crafted knock off of the Kettles.
    9. Pringles salt and vinegar. These are last because, despite all the arguments I have had with friends over this topic, pringles are not real chips.

Finally, I have found that since undertaking this briney quest, the next step for me was the Dill Chip! If you haven't tried them I highly suggest these-

And to think, you probably expected a simple answer to a potato chip question!

Wanted to add I didn't expect so many guys to be big fans of these also! Very cool!

All this reading about them inspired me to bust open the bag of Kettle Baked I mentioned earlier....

Man, SERIOUS letdown! They have a great thick crunch to them no doubt, and thats a plus. Greasy factor non exsistent really. The flavor is scarce among the chips. Some have it pretty good, others practically not at all. Worst thing, is there is what I can only describe as an artificial oil and potato taste that is over present in each chip. When you pop a chip, it starts with that flavor and light saltiness, then the vingar hits in the middle, then that funky flavor fills the finish and leaves an aftertaste.

I'll finish the bag after a few sessions with them, since they aren't bad, but I wouldn't call these good either! Bummer!

Now I gotta go out and get some. Problem is, I generally eat so much of them that my taste buds are affected for the rest of the day!

Gotta have that malt vinegar on fries as well.

Love those as well. For years my wife would eat them and I would look at her with disgust whenever she offered them to me, I finally gave into trying them and am hooked as well! Kettle and Mrs. Vickies are both great!

I had some Salt & Cider Vinegar crisps while in the UK.
Really tasty but didn't pull the enamel off my teeth like the strong vinegars do....

I have to say that I'm fairly fond of the regular Lay's S&V. My wife bought me a shaker of malt vinegar powder, so I've been buying bags of lightly salted chips (Utzs' and Lays) and flavoring them myself.

I have discovered a new NON-S&V chip that is my new favorite - Utz Maui BBQ. They use apple cider vinegar as one of the main ingredients. These chips are a punch in the mouth, they are awesome!

I can get those chips here, they are good for sure. They also have a honey baked ham flavour that is pretty good. Old Dutch kettle sea salt and malt vinager gets my number 1 spot though.

Growing up in England the choices were unlimited in flavors but I left at 9 years old and don't really remember any of the brand names. We had choices such as salt and vinegar, prawn cocktail, steak and onion, cheese and onion, scampi and lemon and a bunch more that I just can't think of now. What a shock when I got here in 1983 to only 3 flavors (BBQ, Plain, Sour Cream & Onion). I'm am so happy to see a lot more flavors coming out over the last few years - my cholesterol is not so happy though.

I do remember loving hula hoops as a child

If you want some salt and vinegar chips that will melt your teeth check out the 99 cent only store and look for the the Thin & Crispy Brand

I love most of the salt & vinegar chips on the market today and overall am very satisfied with Lays.
