    Default Pocket Knife Thread

I'm from the Deep South. I'm more naked without a pocket knife than I am without boxers. I use my knife all day long.

Anyway, for those of y'all who do carry one, what do you have in your pocket?

I'm a huge fan of Lagioule knives. My current daily carry is a Rober David four inch folder with stag scales I picked up on my last trip.

I have an imperial knife that was my grandfathers. How do I clean my knife? Or better yet where can I take it to be cleaned?

Jewelry shop. Have them throw it in the ultrasonic cleaner with the rings.
And then oil it up well.

The Laguiole is a bit more gentlemanly than my EDC - a No 8 Opinel. Prefer the carbon steel one but when working on the farm carry the stainless one so I don't need to worry about cleaning it properly. Also the best biltong knife ever!

Have had a ton of different knives over the years (i'm a biologist and work outdoors), but for my daily carry these days it's one of these Benchmade's:

I like an Opinel. I haven't carried one in a long while and I don't know why.
That lagioule gets used from everything from gutting trout, to opening the mail, at the dinner table, around the farm, scratching my back, well--just about everything but opening cans. I like having a tip on my knives.

Victorinox. I have a couple, but the Soldier is my main one. I have a SOG Kilowatt for round the house. Although you can get away with a larger knife in China, in The UK the law is very strict- nothing more than 3 inches long, no lock of any kind and no quick-open mechanism. The can get 5 years in prison for carrying anything outwith these specs.

I just noticed the Great Outdoor forum below this one. Maybe I should have started this thread in there but I don't think of a pocket knife as outdoor kit any more than a watch. I carry a pocket knife if I'm hip deep in a river or wearing a suit.

I have the Recon 1 with a Tanto point and carried it for a little while. I also used to carry a Leatherman Skeletool CX (154CM blade). I stopped carrying it when someone at work was concerned about someone having a knife.

This post reminds me I need to start carrying a pocket knife again. However, I want something smaller than the Recon 1 and Skeletool. I got my son a Griptilian that I am jealous of. I keep thinking about a smaller Spyderco but just haven't gotten around to it. I do feel more naked without one. lol I carried a pocket knife for many many years.

I'd buy Spyderco Paramilitary 2, which is great, if I wouldn't think that 130$ is too much for a pocket knife.
