Default Dior Fahrenheit: Do I dare to eat a peach?

I was looking for Dior Leather Oud in the Dior section at a department store a couple of months ago--they didn't have it--and I happened to try Fahrenheit. For some reason, I ignored it during its heyday and had never used it. The rep sprayed some on a card for me. I stuck it in the book I was reading at the time and forgot about it. On Monday, I picked up that book again and the card dropped out. I could still smell the traces of Fahrenheit. Since then, I've been sorely tempted to buy some. Should I? Is this my midlife crisis? If so, it's probably going to be cheaper than a vintage Jag E-Type or Madame de Pompadour in a country villa. But will I love it, or the spell be broken after one spray?

How funny. I quoted this very poem of Eliot's yesterday when my doctor asked me how I was doing:

"I grow old" I told him. " I grow old. I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled"

A man of science, not letters my physician. Not impressed.

I've sampled it many times and I still desperately want to buy it. It's extremely unique, I pretty much just get petrol and violet from it but it's amazing. If you are worried about your feelings towards it changing after you buy it then just get the smallest size bottle.

I'm sure I had a bottle at one time in my "ooo it's new and a cool bottle" phase but only remember it had terrific longevity.
I see it frequently pops up at Basnotes forums, and is sort of considered a modern classic (as are most of the Diors). It's very heavily reviewed in their frag directory, and the reviews lean positive.

One of the knocks frag heads have of Farenheit is that it is instantly recognizable. It is seen as a very distinctive scent with few "smell alikes." But I don't think it ever crossed into the territory of Obession for Men, Nid.

Are you implying that you are past your prime and must take time to contemplate something trivial which in turn sums up a life of indecisiveness?

Ar you a Knize Ten fan? Do you like Cool Water? IMO, it is a cross between the two.

The petrol notes of both Fahrenheit and Knize do not agree with me at all, but I really wish they did, especially the Dior.

Interesting comparison of the petrol notes in Knize Ten and Fahrenheit. I hadn't considered that similarity before, but it's a good one. I'm not really a leather fan, so Knize Ten generally isn't very appealing to me, including the petrol note evolving into the leather. But I think the petrol note in Fahrenheit evolving into the violet could be appreciated by those who may not care for Knize Ten.

I find the noxious gasoline fumes of Fahrenheit extremely offputting. To my mind, a much more distinguished vehicle for a mid-life frag crisis would be SMN's Nostalgia, which smells of the garage where they're re-finishing the rich Moroccan leather in that vintage Jag that you just bought, not the lead exhaust of an old muscle car.

Love Fahrenheit, did not care for Knize Ten at all. I guess I could streeetch my mind and agree that there are some very vague similarities, but F gets a four and KT a one in Basenotes from me. My 2 cents- buy you a bottle!

My advice is to never turn down a good juicy peach. And you know what the Allman Brothers said.

    Love the literary reference.

I've never smelled Fahrenheit but now I'm intrigued. I love Knize Ten. Really like Cool Water/GIT as well

Not sure how the weather is by you but I wouldnt dare wear Fahrenheit in warm weather.

It is definitely a manly frag though.

I honestly don't understand why Fahrenheit gets such negative reviews. I find the scent absolutely astonishing! It's distinct and unique scent truly sets it apart and I find it to be very sensual. Absolutely love this juice and can't recommend it enough!

Dior is one of the best designer houses IMO and Fahrenheit is very good. The reform is not as good as the vintage, but it's still good and it's not a pricey scent, so why not? It's better to show up late to the game than never show up at all!

I am not really into aftershaves and generally go for a low smell balm but Fahrenheit is one that I've used for years and still do when the time arises. I think it's excellent. Never noticed petrol/gasoline though!

I second this all the way., I have tried many , many leather fragrances and my opinion is: Fahrenheit is the Truest Smelling Leather fragrance to my nose anyway. this is the leather jacket, baseball glove, leather scent.

Love this stuff! I was initially weary of it because of the "eww it smells like petrol" reviews, but I also saw it getting heaps of praise on BN.

I'm glad I went and gave it a try. It's a beautiful, manly fragrance. Violets and leather sums it up nicely. Although I get a noticeable musk out of it about 4-5 hours in.

Really, it's one that every frag-head should try.

My biggest problem with Fahrenheit is Grey Flannel.
