    Default Cheapest Gold Dollar yet?

As I mentioned yesterday I ordered a couple of GDs on fleaBay - $3.96 a piece.
Well today I got confirmation that they were sent and along with the confirmation the details of the seller's online website - you can buy them there too.
Not only is there a discount starting from just 2 GDs, but you get a 5% reduction code - so 2 GDs, including free postage, rock in at just $7.27, or $3.63 1/2 - could heaven be any cheaper? Well if you buy 10 or more they are already $3.72 each so minus 5% they come in just at about $3.55 - happy days are beckoning.
In case anyone fancies ordering here are the details:

    reduction code - 5%ebay2012

    Happy shopping.

Has anyone had a successful delivery from this place. My last try at cheap GD razors didn't go so well.

Seems to be the same guy that sells them through eBay.

I am not buying any more until they are under $3. We should boycott GD until online retailers sell them to us at a reasonable price. Maybe we should all send them a badger-gram.

    ROTFL! For me!

First I was happy to get them for under $10. Then I started getting them for $7. Then 6, then 5 and then under 5, then halelujah under $4. I just want to see how low they can go! At $3 it would be worth it to me to spend some time to mod, polish and hone them, pack them in nice plastic coffins like the Dovo coffins I get from ClassicShaving, and ship them shave-ready for $45 or so to all and sundry. At that price I could afford to cull out the ones that are gonna be a PITA. A 50% survival rate would be acceptable. Maybe have two grades... one that just shaves well, and one that looks nice too. I don't know. Anyway, if the price can drop from $10 to under $4, then it can drop to $3.

So you're saying that you'll pay more for a piece of injection mold plastic than all the human labor that goes into making these razors in China? I guess that's the American way these days... Then again, who knows how much those laborers in China make anyway.

I don't even care about the injection molded plastic. Just the steel. The blades are roughly ground into a razor shape. I don't care about the stamping or etching or silk screening or the polishing over the coarse grind scratches. Half of the labor in these razors I don't need. To me, they are just half finished blanks with potential, obviously executed by workers who do not know straight razors. I will get mine, in the absence of a supplier that I know and respect, from the cheapest source. Getting them from the most expensive source is probably not going to raise the wages of the workers, anyway.

The injection molded plastic I'm referring to is the Dovo coffins. And, I don't know about the rest you just said since these workers apparently know how to make razors that can be honed with fairly little work. If you want something prettier, pay more. I've definitely seen edges that needed as much work from France or Germany. As far as the shoulder, honestly I've honed Gold Dollars just fine without modifying the shoulder. Besides, people do the same all the time with Maestro Livi's razors. Moreover, GDs have improved so that the shoulder is less pronounced.

Oh. I thought you were referring to the scales.

I wouldn't mind getting the coffins cheaper, for that matter. But at least they don't need any work from me, other than maybe a new label.

The GDs do seem to be getting a little better, I'll give you that. And yeah, I have had a few European razors with major issues, too. Like the Dovo Bests, for instance. (They used to be a lot better!)

The Gold Dollars will continue to improve, as the 10 year olds that make them in the factories get older they will increase in their razor making abilities. Also the 18 hour days they work, will give them more experience.

I just ordered 10, I have been buying them from him on ebay and it usually takes 2 weeks, the last batch were 9 out of 10 for good ones.

It worked out to 34.44 USD for the 10

If they are going to call it a "Gold Dollar" razor, then I should be able to buy it with one of these:

I've ordered from him on eBay. Received them in about the same time as any others. I prefer eBay to order them if the price is similar.

Latest batch from him seems to be significantly improved. Shoulders are ground appropriately, the scales have a blade stop and seem sturdier for it, the pins are much better, the blade is accurately ground and the toe has the correct look (some of the old ones were oblong or pear shape). The gold lettering is still fragile and somewhat cheap looking although the black silkscreen logo was centered and dark on mine - the logo would still be short lived if it was actually left on. The Gold Dollar stamp on the tang is much deeper than on my first batch.

I ordered 100 @ $1.47 each direct from the factory three years ago. Shipping was like $50, and there was a $30 wire transfer fee. So, $2.27 delivered each.

I ordered a few of these to try my hand at honing and making scales - at this price, it won't matter much if I screw them up.

My thoughts entirely. I don't fancy shelling out 40 bucks for a batch of ten, two to start with and when/if I get any good at this honing and modding lark then I'll order some more.
In any case luck is on my side at the moment so I'm hoping that the two I've ordered so far will be useable once any modding has been carried out.
Dusted off the Dremel last night to check that everything is there, seems to be! Will still pop in to the local hardware store to buy some bits and bobs this weekend.
