    Default Shopping list, help required

OK, tomorrow I'm gonna pop to the DIY store to pick up some bits and pieces.
I'm looking to restore a few blades and lap my 1000 artificial hone.

The blades will need a bit of cleaning and polishing, I'm also waiting for a couple of Gold Dollars so sanding drums too - but which ones????
Finally I'm thinking of doing a barbers notch on one of the GD's so what do I use? The sanding drum?

    So I think I need:

    Piece of glass
    360 Wet/Dry
    Some other sandpaper?
    Some polishing powder stuff.
Some sanding drums for the Dremel
Some polishing wheels for the Dremel

Thanks for your help and advice.

Here's a link to Azmark's Razor Polishing Tutorial. You can usually find the Dico compounds at a local Ace Hardware.

Also I believe that Seraphim uses the grinding stones instead of sanding drums.

The sanding drum is the Dremel attachment you will use the most, for grinding. For polishing you will want the felt or cloth wheels. I get my diamond paste from www.tedpella.com. 3u, 1u and .25u are good grades to have. You will want various grades of sandpaper, too, from 100 grit to 1k or 2k grit.

Your glass should be very thick... at least 3/8" and you can glue it to wood for more stability. A polished marble 12" x 12" floor tile works great for lapping stones with sandpaper, and it works well for honing razors, too, with lapping film.

Get some spray adhesive. LocTite is a very good brand. Spray the back of your sandpaper before sticking it to the tile, and carefully apply it, taking care to keep it stretched tight and rolling out any bubbles as it goes on. You also want some acetone or nail polish remover for cleaning the glue residue from your plate.

SWMBO has nail varnish remover and I've got acetone in the basement but how easily will the sandpaper come off the tile?

It should peel right off. But it will leave glue residue. You want your plate to be nice and clean before applying lapping film.
