My pre shave is a nice long hot shower where I put the shower head spraying directly on my beard for a couple mins before I get out and move almost immediately to my shave. I keep a towel in hot water to apply every now and then while I work a lather in my bowl. Still it tugs.. That being said, I started practicing on my chest hair. On my chest the hair practically wipes away.. Its like hot knife through butter... My chest hair is rather course as it is. Could my beard be so coarse that no edge will shave me without tugging?
In addition to what has already been said, pulling the skin taut while making the pass is very important.

Congrats on 30, Doc. I think you find La Toja to be a wonderful combination with The Veg.

This is nuts. At this point, I'm pretty sure someone is sneaking in Doc's house at night and touching up is razor as a gag.

SWMBO has not seen the Paypal receipt

No paste on the fabric component, right?
How do you hold a strop without handles and keep it from cupping?

I'm pretty much in a constant cycle with two razors. I have to go to the stones at 3 months so I guess I'm getting about 45 shaves per blade. I think I do above average laps on the strop with canvas and leather 50 + on each. . . in my mindless morning zombie mode while I run the water to get it hot etc.

    So which did you get?

    Yes no paste.

You grip and rip. It takes a bit of trial and error at first, but it comes together very quickly.

I prefer the barber's end, as I like to start stropping at different spots along the length (12" to 14" is all you need). Basically, I pull the leather taut and extend my off-hand's forefinger beneath the strop to act like a bridge, with the rest of the held area sort of dangling behind this. After I had described this one time, Slash pointed out that the knuckle of the forefinger should be positioned beneath the center of the strop's width, or the length's axis, and that's what I aim for now. No cupping issues with my 2" and 2-1/2" wide strops here.

    I got this one:
    http://www.japanesenaturalstones.com...roductCode=703
"Llama brand razor strop. made by KanayamaTokyo Japan
Made from finest hors hide (cordovan)"

I wonder how many strops they get from one of the finest "hors"?
I guess that explains the price

$131, but DHL gets another $30.

I had a shave yesterday with a TI LeGrelot that I honed and finished on a JNAT

Today's shave with this razor was the same as yesterday's, both very smooth

    Shave # 31
    Prep: Hot shower
Soap: La Toja stick, first time using this product, very nice.
Strop: Kanayama 25 suede, 50 leather
    HHT pre shave: 4
Shave: Great shave, on par with the newly honed razor
