Default Nicolai New York: Great fragrance

I came across my bottle today hidden behind some other shaving paraphernalia and tried it out after a long absence. Very nice scent which I'll now be using more often. This has been reformulated a number of times and rarely for the better. I'm guessing my bottle is from the early 2000's. The distribution is narrow and it can sometimes be hard to find, but it's definitely worth looking for.

That's interesting, Paul. I haven't seen a bottle like that, but I really enjoy the current formulation, and it's hard for me to imagine it could be even better.

This remains a top notch scent and one of my summer favorites.

Perhaps it's not jakespoppy. I've only heard anecdotal comments from a few people.

This scent deserves it's own thread.

Why do you think it's been reformulated numerous times?

I find the current formulation to be excellent.

I wasn't questioning whether or not it has been reformulated, I really don't know if it has or not. I just meant the current version is really, really good!

Such a good scent! Lives up entirely to its considerable reputation.

I do not know about reformulations either, but that does not mean it has not been.

Almost all PdN scents are at least very good. New York is new perfect!

Just ordered a bottle of this, really looking forward to it now! One of the few so far I've done a blind buy on, just based on the description.

I blind bought this and love it. Really nice, refined scent

I have to stop coming to the Fragrance forum. I have picked up 3 or 4 bottles of new stuff, and now want more. This is one scent that I have always read good review about. Probably time to start tracking it down.

    Which description did you read?

The OP dated it to the mid-2000s. I remember it well.

It's certainly a highly regarded frag, in no small part due to perfume critic Luca Turins gushing about it. He claims that he wore New York, and only New York, for ten years. It's also known to be one of the more multiple phases scents going. It's open, heart and base seem like you've applied three different scents.

Many compare it to Creed Bois du Portugal. I'm not so sure in a full wearing, but the opening few minutes are near identical IMO.

It doesn't seem to work on me.

I read the description on lucky scent, between that and the notes listed I thought it was worth a blind buy. I have used a couple other pdn scents and loved them, so that also helped.

I'm consistently complimented when wearing this fragrance .
A prior comment called it dated , maybe so ; I call it classic and more suited for an older gent .
The original poster mentioned narrow distribution .
In New York City , one of the places it's available is New London Pharmacy , in Chelsea :

I love this fragrance so much that I'm willing to fogo the pleasure of using scented shaving creams / soaps .
Which shaving creams / soaps do you think would pair well with PdN New York ?
These are the notes listed on LuckyScent:
bergamot, Sicilian lemon, cloves, thyme, cinnamon, black pepper, pimento, oak moss, vetiver, amber
