    Default Walked to the barbershop

A couple a days a took my car to get the windows tinted and decided to walk a couple of blocks to the barbershop. Way better than waiting two hours in the Texas heat. Waited about 10 minutes and it was my turn. Juan the owner of the barber shop gave me a nice fade and i noticed he unwrapped a new BIC Chrome Platnium cut it half and stuck it in his shavette. Being new to world of DE shaving I asked him where he got his blades since the Bic blade was one which I wanted to try. He told me he ordered them from his supplier in bulk and it was his personal favorite blade to use in his barbershop. I told him I had tried several blades like personnas, astras and feathers but never a Bic and I was looking to learn how to use a straight. He gave me this look of surprise and pointing to his shavette and I said no a straight. He said they shave great but not many people use them. I told him I stared to use a shave brush, soap and a DE not long ago. He was surprised and told to come by if I ever got a straight and he would show me how to shave with it then handed me a new pack of Bic chrome platniums as he finished up my cut. I got a hair cut and a new blade to add to my sampler pack boy did I leave happy.

Sounds like you made a good contact.

Although you may want to hold out until you get a "real" straight razor,
don't turn your nose up at the shavette.

It is a perfectly serviceable tool,
especially when it is in the hands of a properly trained, experienced barber.

Next time you go in for a haircut,
give him some feedback on how the BICs worked in your DE,
and drop some hints that you might like to try a shavette razor.

He may have an old one laying around for you to try out,
but if not, you can pick up a new one at a reasonable price.

I do plan to give him feedback on the blade. I will be trying it next after I am done with the five pack of Red Personnas I am working on right now. After one shave I think it is my favorite so far.

dmp802 I have thought of a shavette due to the fact that there is no need for maintenance other than popping in a new blade.

He's right about the BIC Chrome Platniums. These are very fine blades indeed. The ones I have are made in Greece.
