    Not really. I use a dense boar brush soaked in water, take it out of the water, make a gentle pump and start lathering for about 30-60 seconds. Boom! Lots of lather.

    For some reason MWF is better with hard water than soft water.

    It does seem to need a good bit of water (warm not hot), but I have never had an issue getting it to lather.

    I use cold water on my puck of MWF, it is a thirsty soap but doesn't seem to care if it is cold, warm or hot. YMMV
