    Default TOBS Sandalwood Aftershave Gel

Anybody ever try TOBS Sandalwood AS gel with Witch Hazel? I did a search, but couldn't find anything on it, so I decided to start a thread.

I used it for the first time today and enjoyed it. It smells exactly like the shave cream (which isn't my favourite - see my thread in "shaving creams"), but performs well.

After my shave, I put on some Thayers Witch Hazel followed by the TOBS gel. It went on a little sticky, and you end up using a bit more than you would of say, AOS AS balm, but it did not burn at all and felt nice and cool against the skin. It dried quickly (which I like) and left my face smooth and hydrated. I'd recommend giving it a try if you haven't already done so.

I have some and don't like it. I love the scent, however, gels tend to dry out too quickly on my face and leave it feeling "thirsty". Last week I mixed some 444 with my TOBS gel with better results, however, I still prefer AOS to that mix.

I guess it's a YMMV thing...My skin is still moist, but the scent is just too much for my liking.

Me and that gel have a true love/hate relationship. I love the smell, but between putting it on and when it dries, I hate it. It's kinda' of a sticky, gooey feeling stuff. After it dries (don't use too much, it will stay stickier longer) in has a nice powdery feel to it that I like. I really like TOBS sandalwood albeit, not too much a sandalwood scent, just a nice smell and the wife really likes it too.

You may want to cut it with some splash or witch hazel if you feel it is too sticky. A dab of each in the hand rubbed together. It is nice stuff. I like it.

I'm getting toward the end of a tube, so I guess it's working for me. I have always liked TOBS sandalwood scent. It does feel a little sticky at first but once it's dry, I love it. I'm not sure it would be a good choice in the winter though as I don't feel it moisturizes all that well. I'd go with Edwin Jagger or T&H in the winter if sandalwood is your thing. (both EJ and TH are slightly better at moisturizing but are to "heavy" feeling to me to be used in the summer)

btw...Trumper's Sandalwood skinfood is an outstanding performer for a summer AS as well. IMO, it performs better than TOBS. I just prefer TOBS scent to Trumper. I may go with skinfood next time anyway.

There is another thread on the go right now about sandalwood skinfood...May give it a try...What does it smell like? Similar to TOBS?

Similar only in that both are "interpretations" of genuine sandalwood. To me, TOBS has something of a spicy, slightly soapy smell. Trumpers is a bit more...crisp I guess, maybe more organic smelling, if that makes sense. I dunno, it's tough to put my finger on. I would say they are each distinct and don't really smell like each other.

Ok thanks, as long as it's not as intense and perfumey as TOBS, I'll give it a try!
