    Default Pipe tobacco storage vessels...

What is the best way to store pipe tobacco for current rotational uses?

I've got 5 ziplock bags of tobacco and 5 tins of tobacco.

Should I continue using the tins and put the ziplocked tobacco in something else? Should I put ALL of the tobacco in another style container?

If I use a different storage vessel, what should it be? Mason jar? Lock 'n Lock containers?

I keep a week's worth in ziplock bags, the rest in Mason jars.

Mason jars will keep pipe tobacco perfect for years. I've have tobacco from 2003 that has aged wonderfully using this cheap method.

Glass jars with a good rubber seal are ideal.

I use the large glass Mason Jars for storage. The tobacco I smoke frequently at home I keep in small (1.5 oz?) Mason jars found at Walmart. That way I do not have to frequently open the larger jars letting in more air and allowing some drying as well. On the road I use zip lock bags to carry whatever I am somking that day.

I like to use the crock style jars as well with the rubber gasket and hinged lid. I have several of those in smaller sizes for the "daily" indulgences and the larger mason jars for longer term storage/cellaring.

Think of these Bormioli Rocco Quattro Stagioni Jars , although the modern American version uses a two part lid instead of the one piece metal lid on these. Another variant, now seldom used in the United States for actual home canning, would be these Bormioli Rocco Fido Canning Jars with the thick rubber gasket and a lid that locks in place with a wire bail. The links are to an retailer in the US, but a quick web search shows them as available in Europe as well.
