What else has Wet-Shaving taught you?

Wet-shaving is a great thing, it starts with shaving and ends with AD's Along the way, I've learned a few things that I didnt expect to learn in the process, but they only make the experience better.

I learned that Catalin (the material that some older brush handles are made of) starts off as a white ivory color and then slowly butterscotches and yellows over time. I thought that was really cool. That made me look into older Catalin radios which do the same thing, and they're even nicer than the brush handles.

So what else has Wet-shaving taught you that didnt expect to learn??
Whether it be about glycerine in soaps, or material in blades?
What more have you learned by just wanting a better shave?

It's a strange yet significant parallel; that my commencing wet-shaving also coincided with a greater achievement of work-life balance and a more profound understanding of what the stressors are in my life.

Oh, and it taught me that even though I personally have not come face to face with any other wet shavers they are out there....using pay pal.

I didnt know you could shave Chuck Norris...Haha thanks for sharing. The science of shaving is infinitely confusing.

- That bleeding doesn't necessarily mean pain
- Just because it's five dollars doesn't mean it's not worth it's weight in Gold
- Taking the time to relax and shave is very very satisfying and worth the weird looks the lady gives me
- A new trust is formed when you let the before mentioned lady shave you......with your straight
- Building lather is like building a house, do it right the first time and it will last
- No matter what song plays DO NOT sing along while shaving with your straight (NO high notes...)
- And last but not least, before learning how to shave correctly, men do not know what they are missing. Our fathers and grandfathers knew what they were talking about.

Wet-shaving has taught me the profound elegance of appreciating fragrances. Like eating a perfectly ripened peach. My small daughters love to come around while Dad shaves and I just love watching them opening pots of soap or AS and giving their opinion. I learned which daughters have a real knack for scent - my youngest has a sniffer so discerning it surprises me constantly and she's 6. She not only loves to smell Dad's face, but now she knows what base fragrance is what ... that's pretty cool.

This discerning nose thing has taken us into the kitchen also with cooking. Same same. Appreciating scent and flavor more than before.

Besides that, you guys owe me a crap load of dough (or gratitude) for knives, shoes, and teas. It racks up.

Prep and technique. Enough that I believe I could use a cartridge more efficiently (with less burn) now.

I have learned that a good shave is not a chore, but a time to relax and enjoy the finer things in life. I also know that just because I do not have a million dollars does not mean that I cannot enjoy a million dollar shave and walk out of the house feeling on top of the world because I am making the very best of what I have.

I have also learned how earth friendly wet shaving actually is, compared to using those disposable monstrosities.

It has taught me there is joy and patience involved in shaving especially when you're shaving with a vintage razor over a 100 yrs old.

Patience and letting go. Indulgence without guilt. A great degree of freedom, it has helped me think with a clearer, unencumbered mind. Its a gradual shift but it makes you better. I've actually come to understand and appreciate my fellow man more. Its a good habit... this classic shaving, very well worth cultivating.

I learned I have moderately sensitive skin, and thats the reason the cheapo Afta shave lotion I was using just didn't provide enough moisture and recovery from my shaves! I know use better products and have a better complexion
