Default New to me, Terre d'Hermes

Ok I actually go this in February in Gibraltar, a 100ml spray bottle of the EdT, and it quickly became one of my favourites, along with Pen's Blenheim bouquet. So much so that the bottle is almost empty, I've had to order another. I tried a few others in the shop but that was the one that stood out for me, and I'm so glad I did buy it.

Having a look at some reviews, I came across Dior Eau Sauvage EdT which seems to be in a similar vein, I'm tempted by this. I know everyone buys for themselves, but what's the opinion of this around here?

Eau Sauvage is an excellent frag, and it does have some similarity in style with Terre d'Hermes. Both have a strong citrus opening, although where the TdH opening is more orange/bergamot, ES is more lemony. And both have a drydown into a woodsy/cedary scent. Based on your enjoyment of TdH, I'd say you have good reason to try Eau Sauvage.

You might also want to give the Eau de Parfum version of TdH a try. The opening isn't as sharp as the EdT version, and the drydown is smoother, more elegant, and doesn't have nearly as much of the flintiness of the EdT version. Personally, I enjoy that flintiness. But it should at least be an interesting experience for you to compare them.

Great post, jakespoppy. I agree with everything you said except I can never smell/detect the "flinty" or "mineral" notes in Terre. Maybe because I have no idea what flint or minerals smell like. But I do get a certain sharpness from the EdT that I don't get from the Parfum, which I find more smooth or "round". Perhaps that's the flintiness you and others are referring to.

Terre d'Hermes is pretty much a modern classic. Very well regarded scent by frag heads.

Eau Savage is another classic that has stood the test of time. I believe I read somewhere it is one of the best selling scents in France for many, many years. I have not worn it myself, but one of the things I have seen mentioned a lot is that it is not very long lasting as is the case with most citrus heavy scents. If you put it on before work, it may be gone by lunchtime. But YMMV.

Sancho, how do you find the longevity?

Very good, lasts all day for me. I'm off to the States at the end of the week so will see if they have this, or something else I fancy in the PX. Failing that, I'll see what's available in Kansas City.
