Default What are your quirky shaving habits?

Is there any part of your routine that is silly and pointless? OCD habits? Superstitions?

I always run the razor head under hot water before making the first pass as I hate the feel of the cold metal on my skin.

I always shave the same way, same direction every shave. It feels odd to do things out of line. I also rinse and dry all my gear in the same order as well. I do have rhyme and reason to most of it though.

I've spent possibly thousands of dollars on shaving equipment. Pretty damn quirky.

I'm relatively new to wet shaving and am still in the "experimental stage" trying out different things. It'll be a while before I find the right combination for me, but I've found that I am trying to go all Japanese with my shaving routine. Feather DE razor, Feather blades, Japanese cream, aftershave, balm, etc. I'll never be able to go 100% Japanese though. Don't think they make a badger brush...

If I cut myself with any of my straights, I put them in the "shamebox". It's a big cardboard box with a humidifier in it....I like to think of it as waterboarding my straights. All transgressions are reconciled with swift retribution and such insolence will not be tolerated.

I tried a MMOC once. I've sinced switched to straight razor shaving because it was less dangerous.

I enjoy the symmetry of a branded shave.

    Example;

Proraso Pre, Soap/cream, AS. Even if I change the lather and get a superior shave result I still feel "wrong"

Call it CDO. It's like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order...as they should be...

    Brilliant!

    I use a pre-shave lotion. I don't think it's really necessary but I do it anyway.

    OCD... No I definitely don't have it... I've checked 50 or 60 times, and I don't think I do...

    Let me just check again...

My routine usually goes: Choose and prepare Hard&Software, Brush in soak, Face Wash (I never shave straight after shower), Proraso Preshave (but when I'm feeling radical I'll miss this out), Then Begin!... Only ever 2 passes, WTG and XTG (Though some places do get ATG, but not many). Light touch-up. rinse, little water in bowl to allow brush to dissolve remaining soap, then Alum/Styptic application (maybe aspirin paste application first), then cleanup begins... which has another routine (after which AS/ETD gets applied)... You want to hear any more?

I squawk at my parrot while shaving.

I ignore all the hoopla about shaving and just do it.

I get very nice shaves, but the one quirk I have is that I have to remove all the lather with the razor, even if its not on any whiskers.

I use a 100 year old razor That's pretty quirky!

Seriously though, Shave the same directions, from the same starting point every time. I almost did it backwards the other day, and I stopped and thought "what am I doing?" Post shave is always witch hazel, then aftershave, ALWAYS! Are both necessary? Nope, but that's the way I do it.

I like to follow a special routine, similar to Kyle's Prep, but different, I call it Mike's Prep...

Same here, as Uncle Brian. I run the razor under hot water, for the same reason.
