I'm still a rookie at this...but I know I did not shave with Colgate toothpaste. I bought it from eBarbershop.com--it was described as a 'collector's item' and a great product. I spent >$5 for the soap puck because I used Colgate canned shaving cream in college ($1/can). Wow, was I wrong on that purchase. Tried it >10x with no success--it was demoted to shower duty thereafter.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was afraid it was me. This is about the only soap I've tried that I could not get a usable lather no matter what I tried.

I haven't used really bad soaps, but I can list the ones I liked least:

    - Institut Karité: thin, difficult to make lather... with no scent.
    - DR Harris Marbororugh: the same than IK but with decent scent... and easily drieness foam (anyway I have heard that has been reformulated)
    - Ogallala Bay Rum Limes&Peppercorn stick: expensive to buy in Europe, lovely scent but... any cheap stick soap like Palmolive&Wilkinson&La Toja does better lather by far.
    - An artisan spanish soap called "Tati": like many olive oil based soaps, no lather, no way...

    Cheers!

Ogallala and Lothantique. I wouldn't even wash my car with them.

Funny, never had any luck with Williams before, using my EJ BBB and 22mm TGN 2-band re-knotted Ever-Ready 100. Got my new Semogue 830 yesterday, and I used Williams for test lather #2 (just to break-in the brush a bit). I got ridiculous amounts of slick, creamy lather. Just like some blades work with some razors, and some don't. I guess the same thing goes for brushes and soaps.

You can get rid of it by sending it to me...
Luis -- not very good at this, so take all I say with a huge grain of salt

Durance L'ome. Luckily, no longer made.

. . . He went around back and into the basement because he was hungry. He ate cold beans out of a can and drank some water, and then he saw the small mirror Parker had bought with the razor and the can of lather. He looked at himself and knew he had to take a chance on staying long enough to shave. He shaved, and that made him feel better. . .

Given to me in a gift basket with other Burt's Bees men's gear...you guessed it.

Burt's Bees Bay Rum shave soap. The AS & balm were astonishingly good.

The soap....? Relegated to shower duty. Thin, insipid and got me cut-up. The angry, skinny ex-wife of soaps.

Burts Bees Bay Rum shaving soap was pretty bad, as I recall from some years back.

    Mitchell's Wool Fat.
I have not managed to get any kind of consistency out of this. Once in a great while, it's great. Most times it's too wet or too dry. Not slick even in the best of times. I actually prefer Col. Conk Bay Rum soap to MWF. And neither are as good as my Tabac or C.O. Bigelow creams.

I'll give a nod to Wilkinsons blue bowl.
I think it scarred my lathering technique.
The only thing I use it for now is to clean a brush - either of old soap deposits or new-animal-fur-stink.

Handmade Soap Company Shave Soap for Him

Smells good and it's very moisturizing. But it's pretty worthless as an actual shave soap.

The most awful soap I have had the misfortune to use. I cannot remember what made me buy it.
