    Default Storing a strop?

Hypothetically speaking, lets say I decided to get a backup TM. Is there any particular way you would recommend storing it or maintaining it?

Obviously keeping it away from sun, heat, cold, and humidity. But do you think I will need to oil it from time to time, etc etc

    Thoughts?

I keep mine hanging up in the plastic bag/sheath it came in. I don't think you would need to do much. Maybe store it in a hermetically sealed environmentally controlled strop vault?

It's a good question tho, as his horsehide and steerhide are "dry", while the latigo is wax impregnated, and the notovan..I dunno.

Thanks Kent. Perhaps one of the strop makers could chime in on this matter?

I know Seraphim has a vault where he is holding all those Kanayama's he is going to release on ebay in a decade. Maybe he could look after it?

Don't store it in a plastic bag. You know how they say never to keep your leather jackets in plastic bags? Same deal. Leather need to breath. If you are going to store it flat wrap it in some cotton, and make sure you do not put anything on top of it. Hanging, same, nothing pressing against or touching the surface of the leather. Keep it somewhere dry, and if you oil it it will only need a tiny bit of neetsfoot, maybe once a year.
