Default Proraso Green Tube (new formulation); first lather pics

    greetings lads,

couldn't resist whipping up a lather last night of the new Proraso Green which arrived from Italian Barber.

First impressions? I like the new packaging and design, ingredients list (paraben free). Scent IS different and the olfactory memory evoked was immediately of a herbal, almost Jagermeister smell. Missing is the strong eucalyptus/menthol top note - it's still there but much more subdued. I think this scent may polarize more than the original formula.

Beginning to lather - at 30 seconds and I have added a drop of glycerin and the Savile Row was given one single "pump" up and down to drain excess water.

Final Summary: in terms of scent this is different to the original. It may polarize even though the scent is not overpowering due to it's herbal top notes and earthy, more subtle "original" scent. Lathering was also different as my tried & true method with the original did not quite achieve the same effect.

Shaving effectiveness: slick. It did provide a great cushion and felt even more protective than the original. I did not quite get the face-freeze as I have with the original yet it was still a decently cool shave and allowed the Feather to glide (Slim on 7; 2 pass and touch-up).

Can I recommend it? You bet. For the price it outperforms some of the more expensive/exotic creams out there even though it will take me a few more lathers to dial it right in to the glossy, hydrated mix I aim for. I followed up with the new formula white balm and as I sit here typing I'm not feeling any hot face reaction or discomfort. If you are already a Proraso fan-boy the Green will not disappoint. If you've never tried it don't be afraid to give it a go. YMMV but I'm sure you'll find a willing audience to PIF or BST to.

Proraso is really the Kalashnikov of shaving brands; not the most accurate, not the most expensive, but it IS utilitarian, easy to use and effective.

    I'm convinced.

Thanks for the impressions! I just started reading up on this recent paraben-free wave, will make sure my next batch of Proraso is the new formula! BTW, nice lather!

I am unfamiliar with paraben, just what is it, why is it used as an ingredient, and why is it BAD???

    Thanks

Great stuff, thanks for posting! Have you tried the other Proraso products pictured in the background?

Used the Preshave (white) today. No discernible performance difference to the original. Different scent.

Also used the Balm (white). Improved formula IMHO. New bottle so I actually tipped more than I needed but was stunned at how readily it absorbed into the skin and very soothing effect. No oily residue or greasy finish.

    Very happy.

The complete ingredient list is only one the box. The back of the tube is mostly marketing info.

Thanks for posting. Does the new formula have the fresh barbershop scent like old formula? I can't really put my finger on the scent from reading all these reviews. The only similarity among the reviews is that the eucalyptus and menthol is more subdued in the new formula. I have a tube on the way :)

The packaging looks great! I have to say Proraso is probably my all time favourite cream.
