  1. Default New to Badger & Blade

Hey everyone! I've been wetshaving for a few months now and have been frequenting r/wicked_edge during that time. I thought I'd stop over here to talk to the experts and see what ya'll are up to.

So far I'm still having a few problems with irritating on my neck and the occasional in-grown, but otherwise I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience. Shaving with a Merkur 180/23C and currently using C.O. Bigelow cream, but hoping to move to something less strong like Cella or Vito's Red Label soon.

Hope ya'll are having a wonderful day!

I am going to quote Turtle from my newb post as I am having similar issues, and I am going to be trying what he suggested as well...

"Try to keep your skin taught when shaving your neck to help cut down on irritation. It does not have to be snare drum tight just rest your off hand below your lather and gently pull down and turn your face in the opposite direction.

Also hit your local market or pharmacy and pick up a bottle of Nivea sensitive after shave balm. You should be able to find this easily. It is the best thing for razor burn. It won't fix your issue but it won't be as uncomfortable until you get you technique down and the burn disappears."

Welcome to the fold! You gotta love Merkur for the price and quality of the shave. That Bigelow, if I'm right, is rebranded Proraso. BUT, Proraso has just come out with some reformulations and new products that will provide us all with a little excitement.

+1 on the advice from Turtle and rabid.
Wishing I was back on the AT.

Welcome. Read lots of posts here before you do anything radically different than you are now. There is no single best way to shave - if it's working for you don't change it.
    Peace. Mark.

welcome to B&B, if your always trying to shave for a perfect smooth face,(bbs to us) you may want to back off a bit on the neck, even keep it to 2 passes untill you get the hang of things... just keep the pressure down, and pay attention to yourself as you go and you will be ship shape in no time

I have trouble with my neck area, too. I am a straight user and have a ton of years in DE - so your problem isn't new to me. I find myself using the DE occasionally to criss-cross my neck to get the stubble out. I'm beyond nicks and cuts and ingrown hairs for the most part but I still work on the hard parts to get a BBS. Sharp blades and a bit of care does the trick for me.

Prep, to me, is more important than the shaving soap. I often use crazy stuff just to prove that the soap isn't the main ingredient. I use regular soap (Ivory, Zest, Dove, etc) on occasion. I also use MWF, Cella, KMF, Cade, and all the others. I prep with hair conditioner and before that a warm face splash with water. Keep it wet.

My neck is okay. It's my chin that gets in the way of everything. LOL Enjoy and learn.
