What's new

So I grabbed a bottle of Old #8

On the recommendation of more than a handful of folks here, I got a bottle of George Dickel No. 8. It helps that it was the cheapest bottle of those I considered and haven't yet sampled (Basil Hayden, Talisker 10, Blanton's, Willet's Pot Still Reserve...) at $23 for 750ml.

As I noted in an earlier thread, my FIL really disliked it. I won't be as harsh in my criticism, but I find it to be a little flat on the nose and palate, and I get a medicinal note both on the nose and on the finish that is close to what others have described as similar to that of a Flintstones vitamin (I saw that description after sampling.). I rate every other American whisky I have sampled ahead of it, but I certainly won't send it down the drain. I can continue to sip it and definitely mix it.

Appreciate your thoughts...
