Default Hanging out on this board is a cursed blessing (yeah, I know that is an oxymoron)

I have been able to expand my "tastes" in fragrances and even more importantly, find the style and type of fragrances I really like. I was going about it all wrong before. I have gotten over my fear of wearing "old man" scents (or at least what I perceived as such....i.e. Rive Gauche, Guerlain Heritage, Lagerfeld.) A few others I have been having good luck with are....

YSL Body Kouros (Amazing. Nothing else to say. I will say it again though. Amazing)
Habbit Rouge (I have no idea if I actually like this one but I keep wearing it.....it is such an odd scent for a man)
Cool Water (However, terrible longevity. Anyone else have this issue?)
Montana Red (Suggested by Mr. Styptic and I love it. It is very strong and smells very interesting to me....really great)

If anyone has also had longevity issues with Cool Water.....can you suggest an alternative? I cannot afford GIT....so anything else similar?

Edit: Oh, I forgot to add the cursed part. Ordering samples and decants like crazy and then trying to sell or trade away the ones that did not work for me.

Aspen is another GIT clone just like Cool Water is.

I think Aspen is a pretty good fragrance, especially at its price point. I get decent/good longevity out of it (5-6 hrs), but it doesn't last 2 hours on my bro-in-law.

My Uncle was over the other day and we ended up talking about fragrance for a bit. Out of the blue, he says the one fragrance that gets him more compliments than anything else he wears.... is..... Aspen. I let him try GIT. He shot some on his wrist and took an initial whiff. "Not bad" A little later... "It's pretty good. Not quite as good as Aspen, but a good effort" I explained that GIT came out before Aspen. He says, "Wow, then I'm glad Aspen perfected it" Hah!!! He's in his 70's with a mind that's been 'made up' for years. There's no way I was gonna debate the issue.

Is Aspen and EDT or EDC? I thought it was an EDC and I figured the longevity would not be great.

Aspen is a cologne and, being a cologne, I think it actually has decent longevity. Some colognes have better longevity than others. The same goes for edt's and edp's. I've worn some edp's that have horrible longevity. It's probably due to the particular notes involved in the construction along with body chemistry. Maybe? I'm certainly no expert! I just love the juice, man. Give me the juice.

Aspen is great, but doesn't last long on me. I don't remember cool water not lasting. But, it's been years since I've worn it. I'll have to look at the Montana Red. Never heard of this one. have you tried, did you like regular kouros?

The original Kouros makes me want to vomit (seriously). I know it is a popular one for many people, but it might very well be one of the worst fragrances I have ever smelled (just my opinion of course).

The Montana that Matt is referring to is the original version that came in a red box. It's been discontinued but is still very easily found. Aramis Havana, which came out later than Montana, is similar. Quite a few folks prefer Montana. I find it to be potent and very long-lasting. It's really good stuff and, last I checked, was still fairly reasonably priced.

I thought it was simply re-formulated and still available? Most online store have it and it sells for under $20. A real steal in my opinion for a great fragrance. As you said, it is pretty strong and long lasting.

Here is a pic of the Montana Red. Probably one of the funkiest, if not ugliest bottles out there. But do not let the bottle fool you. The inside is great! Thanks again to Mr. Styptic who suggested it.

My understanding was that is has been re-formulated and available in a blue box and the previous in the red has been discontinued, although still widely available. Either way, I'm with you... it's good stuff!

You convinced me...again. I ordered me a bottle of Montana along with a bottle of Irisch Moos for $14 each. I think I can afford to skip Starbucks a couple days next week to pay for this.

Oh, I had no idea. I figured the blue box was a different scent!

I wore Cool Water regularly ~ 20 years ago and as I recall, the longevity was fairly decent, 6-8 hours, I grew tired of it and other aquatics after 3 years. Wanting an Aquatic for the Summer, I recently purchased Nautica Voyage after browsing the Fragrance Forum. I've worn it the past two days an thought it had a familiar scent, Cool Water I think, it lasts ~6-7 hours on me. I washed my Face @ 9 hours, the scent reactivated and lasted probably another hour or so, bottom line on the Blind Buy is .

I've also worn & liked Aspen in the past and thought it may have some pine notes, more of a cool weather scent, which is why I passed on this one.

    You were right!

After reading some online reviews, it appears the new Montana Black which was released in 2011 may be as good as the Red, so of course I had to order me a bottle just to be certain. Sure is an ugly bottle though...lol

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the bottle.

Reminds me a little of church organs

Based of the bottle shape I would expect a lot of frankincense in it.

I did a side-by-side today and could not tell much difference between Montana Red and Montana Black. I thought the opening was perhaps brighter in the new Black and it seemed to project a little better and last longer also, but I may not have applied them equally. I think you don't need to worry about Red's retirement with Black filling the void.
