MY 2 most overrated blades

The thing about a blade -- any blade -- is that the user has to like the grind and hone that the manufacturer put on the edge. This is where "ymmv" comes into play. I personally did not care for the grind and hone that Personna used on their 74* blades, and the fact that I could get 30 shaves from one blade became a moot point. The smoothness and sharpness factors of the 74* can certainly be debated, but the ridiculous longevity has been pretty well established, so I don't see how they can ever be considered "overrated".

But, again, it's all ymmv.


I thought the Gillette Spoilers and Platinum Plus were nice, but I'm a Schick Chromium and Plus Platinum man through and through.

Great way to fine tune what I was trying to express. I have used all four of the blades you mention above, and like all of them. I do not get along with Personnas except for the Israeli Reds.

If you look a couple of threads down you will find 3 favorite blades. The Med Preps are listed as a top three on quite a few lists. It would be more than a little insulting to imply that all these shavers are following a herd mentality and don't really know what they're talking about. Derby is on somebody's list - which I think is unbelievable, but that only reflects my experience with them. If they work great for you be happy with them and buy them by the 100's. I did buy 100 med preps because they work great for me and I get a week from each one.
