Default Shave Journal -- Clovis Man (Earl)

Five shaves in, the first three were OK, but not really close. The fourth and fifth shaves were somewhat "adventuresome".

ID:	248021 isn't my razor!

Seriously, I'm using a Red Point from the Whipped Dog, and it seems to be just fine, but my technique is a little lacking. And having used a DE for so long, the straight is easy to lose track of -- tonight I actually stuck the point into my cheek at about a 90-degree angle! OUCH!

All that will come along in due time, I feel. The real question concerns an XTG shaving pass. How do I gain the confidence to shave XTG? Currently, I'm using little tiny strokes XTG, and it really isn't working out too well. I'm leaving little red lines on my face when I do so. Some suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Earl

BTW, that picture above is a spear point made by the original "Clovis Man"...

It took me 4 months to shave my face completely with my 7/8 Sheffield blade..took my wife 15 minutes..
For whatever reason she never cared after that

Well today I got what we're all looking for -- an uneventful shave! It isn't as close as I'd like, about what I've been getting with my FatBoy, but today there's no red on the face towel. That's a relief.

Hang in there Earl. I am almost a year in and just now getting those Phenomenal shaves. They will come in time.

Just because it's sharp, does not mean it's smooth.

Well it sure wasn't uneventful today! I got kissed! Along my jawline, in the middle of an ATG pass, the edge just seemed to "dig in" and everything stopped. Fortunately, I was fast enough not to try to push the razor even harder. Result is one shallow cut, almost a line, really, and about 2 inches long. I guess I got off easy this time.

Shave 7 or 8, I think. Seems to me that experience with a DE or injector helps a bit with a straight.

Divot! Well, almost. Stopped it at about a quarter inch slice.

Interesting -- I can't seem to get good enough results with shaving soap, only cream. Although the soap is just fine with my DE razors.

while starting out pick what works best and stay with it. you can come back to the soap when you have more shave miles.
may just be a case of using more water with the soap when using a SR.

Interesting, that since my first post in this thread only a little over three weeks ago, I have gained two more SR's! I've also gained some experience shaving with them, and gained a daughter-in-law!

My technique is steadily improving, and this morning I shaved with a Case Red Imp #132 (wedge) and had no nicks, weepers, or anything else. I shave a lot slower now than I used to!

I even used Tabac shaving SOAP this morning, and although I had to rinse and reload the brush a couple of times, things went well. My shaves with a SR aren't BBS yet, but they do seem to be "socially acceptable".

    Things are good.

But I guess journals aren't really my thing.
